2,6-bis(E)-4-methylbenzylidine)-cyclohexan-1-one as a Fluorescent-on Sensor for Ultra Selective Detection of Chromium Ion in Aqueous Media

Jehangir Khan et al.

Summary: A fluorescence-on sensor/probe for trace level detection of chromium III ion, 2,6-bis(E)-4-methylbenzylidene)-cyclohexan-1-one, was synthesized and characterized by FTIR, H-1-NMR spectroscopy, and fluorimetry. The sensor showed ultra-selective response to chromium among heavy metal ions with a low detection limit of 2.3 x 10(-9) M. Optimization of parameters like pH, sensor concentration, metal ion, and contact time was conducted, and the sensor was successfully employed for detecting chromium in spiked water samples.

A new furan based fluorescent chemosensor for the recognition of Cr3+ ion and its application in real sample analysis

Shanthi Seenan et al.

Summary: The newly designed and synthesized compound 4a showed excellent selectivity for detecting Cr3+ over other metal ions due to its coordination with chromium ion, resulting in intramolecular charge transfer. The compound displayed advantages such as high emission, fast response time, and low detection limit when detecting Cr3+, and has been successfully applied in environmental water sample detection and fluorescence bio-imaging in E-coli bacteria.
