Peptide-modified carbon dot aggregates for ultrasensitive detection of lipopolysaccharide through aggregation-induced emission enhancement

Manivannan Madhu et al.

Summary: This study fabricated yellow-emitting CDs and applied them as a fluorescence turn-on platform for the sensitive and selective detection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). By designing a peptide that triggers the aggregation of CDs, the fluorescence of CDs can be turned on. This peptide specifically interacts with LPS at neutral pH. The study demonstrated that this method has a fast response time, a wide linear range, a low detection limit, and excellent selectivity for detecting LPS.

Protein-Directed Au(0)-Rich Gold Nanoclusters as Ratiometric Luminescence Sensors for Auric Ions via Comproportionation- Induced Emission Enhancement

Yafang Sun et al.

Summary: Gold nanoclusters with versatile optical properties and low cytotoxicity are widely used in biomedical sensing and imaging. Previous studies have focused on acquiring the brightest species of gold nanoclusters, neglecting other types. In this study, a series of gold nanoclusters rich in surface Au(0) were successfully prepared using aged bovine serum albumin (BSA) and pH control during synthesis. It was found that slightly increasing the alkalinity during synthesis generated the darkest gold nanoclusters with strong absorption. The addition of Au3+ quenched the emission of the brightest gold nanoclusters but increased that of the darkest ones. Utilizing this effect, a ratiometric sensor for toxic Au3+ was constructed.

A ratiometric fluorescence sensor for determination of choline based on gold nanoclusters and enzymatic reaction

Sizhe Zhang et al.

Summary: A ratiometric fluorescence sensor was constructed based on BSA-AuNCs and 2,3-diaminophenazine for the accurate and sensitive detection of choline. The sensor utilized choline oxidase for improved selectivity and molybdenum disulfide nanosheets with peroxidase-like activity for shortened detection time. The sensor exhibited a linear range of 0.5-20 μM and 20-100 μM for choline detection, with a detection limit of 0.27 μM. It provided a more accurate detection result compared to single signal sensors by reducing error interference.

Facile one-pot synthesis of white emitting gold nanocluster solutions composed of red, green and blue emitters

Laureen Moreaud et al.

Summary: This study reports a straightforward method for synthesizing red, green, blue and violet emitting AuNCs in pure ethylene glycol with the addition of aniline or indole. By using advanced microscopy, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy techniques, different sizes of AuNCs were identified and found to emit pure white, blue, green, and violet luminescence. The AuNCs were made water soluble and stable while preserving their photo-physical characteristics by capping them with a thiopegylated ligand shell bearing a carboxylate, amine or biotin. These findings have potential applications in biolabeling, hyperspectral sensing, and display technology.
