CO removal for hydrogen purification via Water Gas Shift and COPROX reactions with monolithic catalysts

Eduardo Poggio-Fraccari et al.

Summary: The combination of Water Gas Shift (WGS) and CO preferential oxidation (COPROX) reactions is considered effective for CO removal in H-2 feed for PEM fuel cells. Monolithic catalysts coated with Ce or Ce-Pr and Cu or Cu-Ni showed promising results with a 35% mass increase. Adjusting the Pr content in WGS monoliths and using Cu/ceria monolithic samples for COPROX resulted in optimal activity-selectivity ratios. Operating at around 130 degrees C with a contact time of 0.1 g.s/cm^3 and an O-2/CO = 1 M ratio was found to be the most suitable parameters set.

A highly efficient solar-driven CO2 reforming of methane on Ni/MgAlOx-LDH loaded Ni foam reactors with heat recovery: Experimental measurements and numerical simulations

Zekai Mu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to achieve highly efficient and stable CO2 reforming under direct concentrated solar irradiation by using Ni/MgAlOx-LDH catalysts loaded Ni foam reactor with heat recovery. The system shows improved temperature uniformity, reduced carbon deposition, and higher light-to-fuel efficiency compared to traditional powdered systems. Numerical simulation results confirm the effectiveness of heat recovery in improving CO2 reforming rates. This work opens new possibilities for solar-driven CO2 reforming using Ni/MgAlOx-LDH catalysts loaded Ni foam reactors with heat recovery.

An automated cluster surface scanning method for exploring reaction paths on metal-cluster surfaces

Sean A. Tacey et al.

Summary: A method for systematically discovering reaction pathways on metal-cluster surfaces is proposed, utilizing the ACSS technique to accurately locate transition states with less human effort compared to traditional methods. The rigorous sampling of potential energy surfaces with the ACSS method allows for the discovery of alternative reaction pathways that may have been overlooked with traditional methods, enabling high-throughput exploration of metal-cluster reactivity.

Superb Ni-foam-structured nano-intermetallic InNi3C0.5 catalyst for hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate to ethylene glycol

Jian Zhu et al.

Summary: A high-performance InNi3C0.5/Ni-foam catalyst has been developed for the gas-phase hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate (DMO) to ethylene glycol (EG). The catalyst exhibits a high turnover frequency of 636 h(-1) and effectively activates DMO while hindering over-hydrogenation of EG to ethanol. This catalyst shows promising potential for industrial applications with full DMO conversion and high EG selectivity.

Controlling phase transfer of molybdenum carbides by various metals for highly efficient hydrogen production

Xingtao Sun et al.

Summary: Recently, α-phase Mo carbide has attracted attention for its high activity in the water gas shift reaction. By impregnating metals (Au, Pt, Rh, Cu) on MoO3 made by flame spray pyrolysis, Mo carbides were successfully produced in one-step carbonization process. The addition of trace Rh led to direct transformation of MoO3 to α-MoC1-x and exhibited high stability in the WGS reaction even at high temperatures.

Ni-Foam-Structured Ni-Al2O3 Ensemble as an Efficient Catalyst for Gas-Phase Acetone Hydrogenation to Isopropanol

Mengchen Shen et al.

Summary: The development of a free-standing Ni-Al2O3 ensemble derived from NiAl-layered double hydroxides (NiAl-LDHs) grown onto a Ni-foam has proven to be effective in achieving a unique combination of high activity/selectivity and enhanced heat/mass transfer. The catalyst derived from un-calcined NiAl-LDH/Ni-foam exhibits a high turnover frequency and the capability to convert a high percentage of acetone into isopropanol with almost 100% selectivity.

Roles of highly ordered mesoporous structures of Fe-Ni bimetal oxides for an enhanced high-temperature water-gas shift reaction activity†

Yong Min Park et al.

Summary: The highly ordered mesoporous Fe-Ni bimetal oxide (m-FeNi) catalysts showed enhanced activity and stability with high CO2 selectivity and small methanation activity at an optimal Ni/Fe ratio of 0.24. The well-dispersed Ni nanoparticles played a key role in altering the reducibility of Fe nanoparticles and increasing the interaction of Fe2O3-NiO interfaces, leading to less aggregation of Fe nanoparticles and smaller coke depositions. The newly formed stronger interactions between the mesoporous Fe2O3 and highly dispersed NiO nanoparticles at their optimal amounts were responsible for the superior structural and catalytic stability of m-FeNi metal oxides even under HT-WGS reaction conditions.
