A new regionalization of rainfall patterns based on wavelet transform information and hierarchical cluster analysis in northeastern Algeria

Bilel Zerouali et al.

Summary: Due to its geographical location, Algeria experiences high spatiotemporal rainfall variability. This study analyzed data from 69 rain gauges located in different regions of northeastern Algeria from 1970-2007 to understand the regional rainfall patterns. The analysis revealed that the northern humid region is dominated by periodic annual fluctuations, while the arid regions experience long-term periodic phenomena. Additionally, the study found a long period of drought during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, with a recent tendency towards wetter conditions since the late 1990s.

Summary: This study assesses the overall drought vulnerability over the Narmada River Basin in India by incorporating hydroclimatic, socio-economic, and physiographic information. The results show that a majority of the area is highly to extremely vulnerable to droughts, highlighting the need for immediate attention and resilience-building measures. The proposed multi-dimensional approach can help policymakers proactively plan and manage water resources to mitigate the impacts of droughts.

An Enhanced Innovative Triangular Trend Analysis of Rainfall Based on a Spectral Approach

Bilel Zerouali et al.

Summary: This paper assesses a new hybrid method that combines ITTA with DWT to identify rainfall trends over time. The analysis showed wettest periods from 1950 to 1975 followed by a dry period after 1973, with an increase in rainfall in the latter decade. The ITTA-DWT method outperformed the ITTA method for partial trend identification, highlighting the efficiency of DWT as a coupling method for extreme rainfall event detection.

Daily streamflow forecasting in Sobradinho Reservoir using machine learning models coupled with wavelet transform and bootstrapping

Samuel Vitor Saraiva et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comparative analysis of a set of machine learning models, including an ANN and an SVM coupled with wavelet transform and data resampling. Results showed that the ANN outperformed the SVM in terms of accuracy, with the best performing combination being the BWNN method. The BWNN method yielded lower mean square error and higher R-2 and MAE coefficients for streamflow forecasting 3 to 15 days ahead.
