Impact loading in female runners with single and multiple bone stress injuries during fresh and exerted conditions

Summary: This study compared the impact variables during the beginning and exertion of treadmill running between female runners with no history of bone stress injuries (BSIs), those with a history of one BSI, and those with a history of multiple BSIs. The results showed that women with multiple BSIs had greater increases in impact loading during exertion compared to those without BSI history. These findings suggest that changes in gait biomechanics during exertion may contribute to the risk of BSI.
