Sophoraflavanone G suppresses the progression of triple-negative breast cancer via the inactivation of EGFR-PI3K-AKT signaling

Wei Cheng et al.

Summary: This study found that Sophoraflavanone G (SG) can inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) by targeting the EGFR-PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, and induce cell apoptosis and oxidative stress.

A pyroptosis nanotuner for cancer therapy

Binlong Chen et al.

Summary: The authors in this paper engineer a library of ultra-pH-sensitive nanophotosensitizers that can target specific endocytic organelles and induce pyroptotic cancer cell death in a controlled manner. By spatiotemporally targeting distinct stages of endosomal maturation, they achieve tunable cellular pyroptosis. The nanotuner platform demonstrates enhanced antitumor efficacy and minimized systemic side effects in various gasdermin-E-positive human cancers.

Immunotoxicity of pentachlorophenol to a marine bivalve species and potential toxification mechanisms underpinning

Weixia Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the immunotoxicity of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on a representative bivalve species and analyzed its impacts on metabolism, energy supply, detoxification, and oxidative stress. The results showed that PCP exposure significantly hampered the immunity of blood clams, disrupted energy metabolism, altered detoxification gene expressions and enzyme activities, and induced oxidative stress. These findings suggest that PCP may pose a threat to the immunity of marine invertebrates and deserve more attention.

Summary: The study identified a homologue of AIF, CgAIF1, in oysters, which shares a similarity of 35.44% to 79.22% with AIF1s from other species. Upon LPS and Poly (I:C) stimulation, the mRNA transcripts of CgAIF1 in gills significantly increased.

Summary: The research revealed that under high ambient ammonia-N conditions, the combination of CHH and GC mainly affects exocytosis of shrimp through the cGMP-PKG-CREB pathway. Additionally, CHH can promote the Toll3-NF-kappa B pathway, influencing the expressions of immune defense factors.

The mechanism of apoptosis of Chlamys farreri hemocytes under benzopyrene stress in vitro*

Yimeng Tian et al.

Summary: The study revealed that B[a]P induced an increase in oxidative stress and oxidative damage in hemocytes, while mediating hemocyte apoptosis through both the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway and death receptor apoptosis pathway. Additionally, BPDE and MAPKs may play significant roles in the B[a]P-mediated apoptosis pathway.

Impacts of benzo(a)pyrene exposure on scallop (Chlamys farreri) gut health and gut microbiota composition

Dongyu Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) exposure could impair the gut health of scallops by increasing intestinal permeability and inducing immune and antioxidant responses. Furthermore, BaP exposure altered the gut microbial diversity and composition in scallops, resulting in a decrease in beneficial genera and an increase in potential pathogens. The presence of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria also varied after exposure to different concentrations of BaP.
