Inhomogeneous lens design to increase the gain of antennas regardless of the specific focal point

Mohammad Mahdi Taskhiri

Summary: This paper presents an inhomogeneous lens based on the ray inserting method (RIM). The focal length is a critical factor in lens design, and the proposed lens is useful for arrays of radiators and antennas without a definite phase center. It is also suitable for broadband antennas due to their naturally dispersive phase centers. The designed lens, located beside a broadband rounded bow-tie antenna, is applicable in millimeter, terahertz, and optical frequencies. The parametric model is considered based on the design frequency, and full-wave simulations confirm the results at the operation frequency using CST software.

Design of a Wideband Flower-like Shape Metamaterial Reflectarray Antenna

Ebrahim Hadian et al.

Summary: In this paper, a planar reflectarray antenna with new metamaterial unit cells is designed. Two different flower-like shaped unit cells are studied and multi cells with varying sizes are used. A new method without try-and-error process is presented and the designed reflector has a compact width. The proposed structure can achieve a reflectarray antenna with gain in the range of 20 to 30dBi with acceptable radiation efficiency, as confirmed by simulation and measurement results.

Chirality-Assisted Phase Metasurface for Circular Polarization Preservation and Independent Hologram Imaging in Microwave Region

Yueyi Yuan et al.

Summary: This article introduces a chirality-assisted phase technique that can impose separate phase profiles in two circular polarization preserving channels under LHCP and RHCP illuminations. A multi-layered meta-atom is used to implement this scheme, and a polyatomic unit composed of four separate chiral meta-atoms is proposed to suppress polarization conversion. A dual-holographic metasurface is designed to project characters L and R in two co-polarized fields, with little energy distributed in corresponding cross-polarized fields. Experimental measurements show good agreement with theoretical predictions, demonstrating the potential of this mechanism in multifunctional antenna design and wireless communications.

Pouyan Esmaeili et al.

Summary: In this article, a multi-resonance frequency scanning antenna with a Luneburg lens is designed, which can achieve beam steering by changing the frequency. The steering angle of the designed model is +/- 50 degrees. The advantage of this model over other works in this field is that it uses only one multi resonant slot antenna and has a more straightforward fabrication process.

Wenyi Shao et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel three-dimensional generalized hyperbolic secant (H-S) lens made from perforated dielectric material, featuring unique flat shape and extensibility for different scenarios. The lens antenna prototype, utilizing a high gain and wideband printed antipodal fermi antenna as a feeding source, exhibits high radiation performance with low side lobe level and radiation efficiency above 40% across tested frequencies. This suggests the potential for the proposed H-S lens in broadband high directive antenna applications.
