Length effect of ceria nanorod on its oxygen vacancy formation and photocatalytic property

Junshan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, ceria nanorods of different lengths were synthesized by a hydrothermal method, and the influence of surface oxygen vacancies on their catalytic properties was investigated. The results showed that the concentration of oxygen vacancies initially increased and then decreased with the length of the ceria nanorods, while the band gap gradually expanded. Furthermore, oxygen vacancies were found to promote the photocatalytic activity of ceria, but they also had an impact on the efficiency of electron-hole separation and the degradation rate of methylene blue.

Tin dioxide nanomaterial-based photocatalysts for nitrogen oxide oxidation: a review

Viet Van Pham et al.

Summary: Semiconducting SnO2 photocatalyst nanomaterials are widely used in energy and environmental research due to their excellent physical and chemical properties. The photocatalytic oxidation of nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollutants is of particular interest in mitigating climate change. While previous studies have focused on the application of SnO2 materials for photocatalytic oxidation of pollutants in water, gas pollutant decomposition is still being explored. Factors such as physical structure, band energies, surface and defect states, and morphology have been found to influence the photocatalytic activity of SnO2 and other materials for NOx decomposition. Recent studies have aimed at modifying the properties of SnO2 to enhance its photocatalytic efficiency, including bandgap engineering, defect regulation, surface engineering, heterojunction construction, and the use of co-catalysts, which will be discussed in detail in this review.
