The Hubbard Model: A Computational Perspective

Mingpu Qin et al.

Summary: The Hubbard model, as the simplest model of interacting fermions on a lattice, exhibits a wealth of phases, phase transitions, and exotic correlation phenomena. In recent years, numerical tools have made impressive progress in achieving quantitative accurate results, offering deeper insights into the correlation physics of the model.

Breakdown of heavy quasiparticles in a honeycomb Kondo lattice: A quantum Monte Carlo study

Marcin Raczkowski et al.

Summary: We investigate the half-filled Kondo lattice model on the honeycomb lattice and find that a Kondo breakdown occurs at small Kondo couplings Jk within the magnetically ordered phase. Our conclusions are based on auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the composite fermion spectral function. Within a U(1) gauge theory formulation of the Kondo model, it becomes apparent that a Higgs mechanism dictates the weight of the resonance in the spectral function. We observe that for the honeycomb lattice, the quasiparticle pole transforms into incoherent spectral weight for small Jk, while it remains well defined for the square lattice. This result provides an explicit example where the magnetic transition and the breakdown of heavy quasiparticles are detached as observed in Yb(Rh0.93Co0.07)2Si2 [S. Friedemann et al., Nat. Phys. 5, 465 (2009)].

Tracking the Footprints of Spin Fluctuations: A MultiMethod, MultiMessenger Study of the Two-Dimensional Hubbard Model

Thomas Schaefer et al.

Summary: The study compared various quantum many-body methods using the Hubbard model in different physical regimes, such as incoherent, metallic, and insulating with pseudogap created by antiferromagnetic fluctuations, in order to assess their ability to address these regimes and crossovers. Through computational and analytical analysis, the role of spin fluctuations and the accuracy of dynamical mean-field theory in approximating local quantities in the metallic regime were elucidated. Additionally, the study critically discussed the ability of imaginary-time methods to capture the non-Fermi-liquid singularities in the system.

Zooming in on heavy fermions in Kondo lattice models

Bimla Danu et al.

Summary: In this study, the challenging task of resolving the heavy fermion band in the conduction electron momentum resolved spectral function of the Kondo lattice model was tackled by considering a composite fermion operator. It was found that the composite fermion acts as a magnifying glass for the heavy fermion band and its residue can track the Kondo coupling. The results suggest that the composite fermion operator can be a unique tool to study the destruction of the heavy fermion quasiparticle in Kondo breakdown transitions.

Reentrant metal-insulator transition and competing magnetic interactions on a triangular lattice with second nearest-neighbor hopping

Xin Gao et al.

Summary: The research systematically studied the isotropic triangular Hubbard model with second nearest-neighbor hopping t', revealing a clear dependence of both electronic and magnetic phase transitions on t'/t and observing a remarkable reentrance of the metal-insulator transition as well as a crossover between different magnetic states.
