Fabrication of Antheraea pernyi Silk Fibroin-Based Thermoresponsive Hydrogel Nanofibers for Colon Cancer Cell Culture

Bo-Xiang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, novel thermoresponsive hydrogel nanofibers based on Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin (ASF) were successfully fabricated for colon cancer cell culture. The hydrogel nanofibers showed improved cell adhesion, proliferation, and viability compared to traditional hydrogels. These findings suggest that ASF-based nanofibers have potential as an in vitro cancer cell culture platform.

Tendon tissue engineering: Current progress towards an optimized tenogenic differentiation protocol for human stem cells

Ilze Donderwinkel et al.

Summary: The lack of a widely-adopted protocol for tenogenic differentiation has been a major obstacle in the field of tendon tissue engineering. This review presents a holistic evaluation and proposes a pathway to facilitate the development of a consensus protocol for stem cell tenogenic differentiation and tendon tissue engineering, building on current knowledge on tendon development and healing.

Oral nanotherapeutics based on Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin for synergistic treatment of ulcerative colitis

Ya Ma et al.

Summary: This study developed engineered Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin nanoparticles loaded with an anti-inflammatory drug, resveratrol, to target colonic epithelial cells and macrophages for effective ulcerative colitis (UC) treatment. The nanoparticles showed lysosomal escape capacity, pH and reactive oxygen species responsiveness, and targeted delivery to the cytoplasm for on-demand drug release. Oral treatment with these nanoparticles relieved UC symptoms by restoring damaged colonic epithelial barriers, reducing inflammation, and rebalancing intestinal microbiota.

Nonoperative or Surgical Treatment of Acute Achilles' Tendon Rupture

Stale B. Myhrvold et al.

Summary: This multicenter randomized controlled trial compared nonoperative treatment, open repair, and minimally invasive surgery for acute Achilles' tendon rupture. The results showed that surgery (open repair or minimally invasive surgery) was not associated with better outcomes than nonoperative treatment at 12 months. The nonoperative group had a higher incidence of tendon rerupture.

Production and Application of Biomaterials Based on Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as Wound Dressing

Sung Giu Jin

Summary: The development of ideal wound dressings is crucial for wound healing, and Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based materials have gained significant attention due to their excellent properties such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and low cost. PVA can create a moist wound environment, improve physical properties, and enhance wound healing rates. Additionally, PVA can be mixed with other materials for drug delivery and wound healing purposes.

Cleavable poly(ethylene glycol) branched chain-modified Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin as a gene delivery carrier

Xueping Liu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a gene carrier that can effectively deliver therapeutic genes to tumor cells. The PEG-MMP2SSP-modified CASF (CASFMP) showed promising results in inhibiting tumor cell proliferation with lower cytotoxicity to normal cells, making it a potential compound for gene therapy.

Postoperative Rehabilitation Following Achilles Tendon Repair: A Systematic Review

Heath P. Gould et al.

Summary: The optimal postoperative management of Achilles tendon rupture remains unknown, but early weightbearing with less rigid immobilization seems to accelerate short-term functional recovery. However, there is wide variation in results among studies, and further research is needed to determine long-term effects.

Degradable allyl Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin thermoresponsive hydrogels to support cell adhesion and growth

Boxiang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin (ASF) and allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) were used to prepare hydrogels with superior cytocompatibility. The hydrogels demonstrated good thermoresponsive and degradability without any crosslinking agent, and showed excellent cell proliferation and cytocompatibility for b End.3 cells. These degradable and thermoresponsive ASF based hydrogels may have potential applications in cell delivery devices and tissue engineering.

Electrospun regenerated Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin scaffolds with improved pore size, mechanical properties and cytocompatibility using mesh collectors

Shengzhi Zou et al.

Summary: By using conductive metal meshes as collectors to prepare modified regenerated Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin (RASF) scaffolds, significant improvements can be made in pore size, porosity, and mechanical properties. The new scaffold (RASF-7mmG) exhibits higher cell viability, deeper cell permeation, and faster cell migration compared to traditional intact plate-collected scaffolds.
