Summary: An improved trisection algorithm (ITSA) is proposed to compensate for the magnetic field around the vapor cell in spin-exchange relaxation-free atomic magnetometers. The algorithm reduces the compensation time to 0.85 s in a single magnetometer and 26 s in magnetoencephalography equipment, and achieves a 16% increase in measuring sensitivities compared with the traditional algorithm. Experimental and mathematical analysis confirm the effectiveness of ITSA.

Closed-loop control of the longitudinal axis compensation point in the K-Rb-21Ne comagnetometer

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This work proposes a real-time closed-loop control method for the longitudinal compensation point of the comagnetometer to mitigate the drift in the magnetic field. By establishing a model of the transverse magnetic field response of the comagnetometer and studying the relationship between the demodulation phase and the driving frequency with the longitudinal remanence, a closed-loop control system is constructed. Experimental results demonstrate that the Allan variance at 100 s is reduced by 38.2% and the repeatability of the scale factor is improved by 83.3% in the closed-loop mode. This research is crucial for advancing comagnetometer engineering applications.

Effects of Probe Laser Intensity on Co-Magnetometer Operated in Spin-Exchange Relaxation-Free Regime

Yang Fu et al.

Summary: This article theoretically and experimentally studies the optimization of probe laser intensity working point in the spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) regime for a co-magnetometer. By establishing the error equation of the output signal considering the probe laser pumping effect based on the steady-state solution of the Bloch equation, a method for real-time measuring the pumping rate of the probe laser is presented. Combined with measurement results, a method for quickly finding the optimal working point for the probe laser intensity is also proposed. The experiments verify the accuracy of the deduced law and demonstrate that an appropriate probe laser intensity working point can effectively reduce signal noise and bias instability of the SERF co-magnetometer.

Summary: Nuclear fusion using magnetic confinement, specifically in the tokamak configuration, is a promising method for sustainable energy. In this study, researchers introduce a previously undescribed architecture for the design of tokamak magnetic controllers, which autonomously learns to command the full set of control coils. This approach demonstrates unprecedented flexibility and generality in problem specification, leading to a notable reduction in design effort and the ability to produce new plasma configurations.

Strong coupling of alkali-metal spins to noble-gas spins with an hour-long coherence time

R. Shaham et al.

Summary: In this study, we achieved strong coherent coupling between noble-gas spins and optically accessible spins of an alkali-metal vapour through the accumulation of stochastic spin-exchange collisions. The coupling strength obtained was ten times higher than the decay rate and we were able to actively control the coupling using an external magnetic field. This approach could lead to fast and efficient interfaces for noble-gas spins, enabling applications in quantum sensing and information.

Atomic Spin Polarization Controllability Analysis: A Novel Controllability Determination Method for Spin-Exchange Relaxation-Free Co-Magnetometers

Zhuo Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the controllability of atomic spin polarization in SERFCMs. The Bloch equations are used to describe the dynamic behavior of spin polarization in atomic spin ensemble systems. A state-space model is established for the atomic spin polarization in SERFCM, which belongs to a class of nonlinear systems. A novel determination method for global state controllability is proposed and implemented in the analysis of the atomic spin polarization. A theoretically feasible control input solution is proposed under physical constraints to achieve more practical and accurate controller design. The simulation results validate the proposed controllability determination method.
