Exploring the link between ultrasonic and strength behavior of cementitious mine backfill by considering pore structure

Muhammet Sari et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the strength development and pore structure changes of cementitious mine backfill (CMB) using ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) technique. The influence of different types of pyritic tailings on the quality of filling specimens was investigated. The results showed that the total porosity of CMBs decreased with increasing age and binder ratio. The acidic nature of low pH tailings negatively affected the aged strength of CMBs, but these negative effects decreased with slag substitution and high binder dosages. Excellent correlation curves were found between UPV and UCS.

Strength and microstructure evolution in cemented mine backfill with low and high pH pyritic tailings: Effect of mineral admixtures

Muhammet Sari et al.

Summary: This study investigates the quality of cemented paste fill (CPB) containing low pH and high pH pyritic tailings. Thermal enhancement of gangue-cemented paste backfill with graphite and silica sand: an experimental investigation

Baiyi Li et al.

Summary: The thermal conductivity of mine backfill is crucial for understanding the potential of geothermal energy extraction in deep underground mines. This study investigates the use of graphite and silica sand to enhance the thermal conductivity of gangue-cemented paste backfill. The results show that while graphite improves thermal performance, it has negative effects on mechanical behavior and flowability. On the other hand, the addition of silica sand effectively increases thermal conductivity without degrading compressive performance and flow performance.

Study on strength and deformation characteristics of cemented gangue backfill body under the coupling action of load and salt erosion

Yonghui Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term strength and deformation characteristics of cemented gangue backfill body (CGBB) under the coupling action of load and salt erosion. The results showed that the compressive strength of CGBB increased with the rise of compressive stress level, while the eroded specimens had lower compressive strength than the non-eroded specimens. The deformation of CGBB increased with time and compressive stress level, and there was still a certain increase in deformation for the eroded CGBB later on. By analyzing the microstructure, it was found that the formation of expansion products changed the compactness of CGBB in different erosion stages, and the compressive stress within 50% stress-strength ratio inhibited the erosion of CGBB.
