Combination of 3-Aminofurazan-4-carboxylic Acid and Transition Metals to Prepare Functional Energetic Catalysts for Catalyzing the Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate

Tao Huang et al.

Summary: Five new types of energetic coordination complexes were synthesized and used as catalysts for ammonium perchlorate (AP). The complexes, when bound to transition metals, exhibited improved thermal stability. The best catalyst was found to be the one with manganese as the metal center, which significantly reduced the high-temperature decomposition of AP and increased the heat release. The catalytic process was monitored using thermogravimetric analysis-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which showed a substantial advancement in the decomposition of AP. AP with complex 4 and complex 5 exhibited vigorous combustion.

Assembling Silver Cluster-Based Organic Frameworks for Higher-Performance Hypergolic Properties

Chao Wang et al.

Summary: This research focuses on developing next-generation propellants by assembling zero-dimensional silver clusters with energetic ligands into 3D metal organic frameworks, which not only inherit the short ignition delay time but also significantly increase the output energy. Among them, the open cationic framework of ZZU-363 achieved the shortest ignition delay time, highest volumetric energy density, and specific impulse, surpassing traditional hydrazine-based propellants. The underlying mechanisms are revealed by theoretical calculations, opening up possibilities for enhancing the hypergolic activity of metal clusters and MOFs.

Transition-metal-mediated reduction and reversible double-cyclization of cyanuric triazide to an asymmetric bitetrazolate involving cleavage of the six-membered aromatic ring

Shivaiah Vaddypally et al.

Summary: The cyanuric triazide reacts with various transition metal precursors, producing N-2 and reducing the diazidotriazeneylnitrene species by two electrons to form a dianionic ligand. This ligand ligation to the metal, dimerizes, and is isolated as [M(biTzI)](2)Py-6 (M = Mn, Fe, Zn, Cu, Ni). The formation mechanism involves a two-electron reduction prior to ligand rearrangement, as elucidated through reagent scope, product analysis, and quantum chemical calculations.
