Chromium exposure altered metabolome and microbiome-associated with neurotoxicity in zebrafish

Tongtong Yan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of chromium exposure on the metabolome and microbiome in juvenile zebrafish, which may contribute to neurotoxicity. The results showed that chromium exposure led to decreased swimming distance and locomotor behavior, reduced acetylcholinesterase activity, and decreased total cholesterol levels. Additionally, it was found that chromium exposure altered the gut microbiota and bile acid metabolism. Therefore, chromium exposure may disturb cholesterol metabolism and affect neurotoxicity.

Reductive Transformation of Hexavalent Chromium in Ice Decreases Chromium Toxicity in Aquatic Animals

Bo-Mi Kim et al.

Summary: This study found that the toxicity of Cr(VI) reduced by citric acid in ice was significantly lower, resulting in reduced harm to aquatic animals. Animals showed increased tolerance to Cr(VI) after reduction in ice, with no impact on antioxidant capacity.

CDK6-PI3K signaling axis is an efficient target for attenuating ABCB1/P-gp mediated multi-drug resistance (MDR) in cancer cells

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reveals CDK6-PI3K as a novel target signaling axis to reverse ABCB1-mediated multidrug resistance for the first time in cancers. Deficiency of CDK6 leads to downregulation of ABCB1 expression and reversal of multidrug resistance.

Analysis of Zebrafish contamination with heavy metals using a FF-XRF imaging system based on a MPGD

F. D. Leite et al.

Summary: Understanding the environmental risks of heavy metals is crucial due to their harmful effects on air, soil, water, and living organisms. The Zebrafish has been proven to be an excellent animal model for studying physiological responses and toxicology. A Full-Field Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence imaging system was used to monitor heavy metal accumulation in Zebrafish during a water borne exposure bioassay.

Hexavalent chromium amplifies the developmental toxicity of graphene oxide during zebrafish embryogenesis

Yuming Chen et al.

Summary: Combined toxicity of graphene oxide (GO) and hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) significantly enhanced teratogenicity in zebrafish embryos in a concentration-dependent pattern. The main deformity observed was spinal curvature, with changes in protein secondary structures and disruptions in musculoskeletal system development. Interactions between Cr6+ and GO altered the properties of GO nanoparticles, leading to increased defects and oxidative stress in zebrafish. These findings are important for assessing the ecological risk of graphene family nanomaterials in the natural environment.

Chromium induced neurotoxicity by altering metabolism in zebrafish larvae

Yawen Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that both Cr (III) and Cr (VI) can interfere with one carbon metabolism, affecting DNA methylation and histone methylation to regulate the expression of neuro-related genes, leading to neurotoxicity.

Combined Toxicity of Xenobiotics Bisphenol A and Heavy Metals on Zebrafish Embryos (Danio rerio)

Davide Di Paola et al.

Summary: The study showed that the combination of environmental pollutants and BPA could induce acute inflammatory response in zebrafish larvae, leading to body alterations. Co-exposure of BPA with Cd or Cr (III) in zebrafish embryos and larvae resulted in malformations, increased oxidative stress, and apoptosis. An synergistic effect of environmental pollutants at common doses was observed, impacting antioxidant defense and fish development.

Apoptosis, oxidative stress and genotoxicity in developing zebrafish after aluminium exposure

Teresa Capriello et al.

Summary: The study revealed that aluminium significantly impacted the development and cell death of zebrafish, while also altering the oxidative state of larvae. At the highest concentration, aluminium toxicity led to decreased activity levels of certain antioxidant enzymes.

Direct embryotoxicity of chromium (III) exposure during preimplantation development

Yuhe Tian et al.

Summary: This study found that chromium (III) has direct embryotoxicity on early mouse embryos, with high concentrations leading to embryo developmental arrest and almost complete failure of blastocyst formation, while low concentrations resulted in reduced blastocyst formation, decreased total cell numbers, aberrant lineage differentiation, increased oxidative stress, and apoptosis. Even exposure to low concentrations of chromium (III) during the preimplantation stage impaired post-implantation development.
