Overheating of Waspaloy: Effect of cooling rate on flow stress behavior

Satoshi Utada et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of short overheating on the tensile properties of a Ni-based superalloy Waspaloy. The results show that near supersolvus overheating combined with rapid cooling has the most detrimental effect on the material's tensile properties. The microstructure change during overheating and cooling is deduced using in-situ resistivity measurements.

Electron and laser-based additive manufacturing of Ni-based superalloys: A review of heterogeneities in microstructure and mechanical properties

Nana Kwabena Adomako et al.

Summary: The application of additive manufacturing (AM) for Ni-based superalloys is important in aerospace and power-generation industries. However, challenges arise due to heterogeneity in printing complex alloys. Understanding the relationship between AM process and microstructure heterogeneity is crucial for developing mitigation strategies. Fabricating more homogeneous Ni-based superalloy parts is expected to enhance mechanical properties and expand applications.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of a nickel-based superalloy repaired using wire and arc additive manufacturing

Yuanhang Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructural evolution and mechanical behavior of the repaired ATI 718Plus sample in detail. The deposited zone (DZ) mainly consisted of columnar grains inclined along the z axis, while the substrate zone (SZ) had equiaxed grains. The DZ showed a significant height dependence in the distribution of gamma' precipitates. Grain growth and dissolution of q, gamma' phase were observed in the heat-affected zone (HAZ). The hardness showed a gradual increase along the negative Z axis and a sudden decrease in the HAZ. Direct age treatment resulted in further growth of q precipitates and precipitation of gamma' phase. The repaired samples always fractured in the DZ. The tensile test showed an increase in ultimate tensile strength (UTS) but lower elongation in the DA condition.

Precipitate coarsening and its effects on the hot deformation behavior of the recently developed γ′-strengthened superalloys

Yuting Wu et al.

Summary: The coarsening behavior of gamma prime precipitates plays a significant role in the properties and hot deformation behavior of gamma'-strengthened superalloys. The particle size is crucial in the morphological evolution of precipitates, with different morphologies observed in different types of superalloys. The coarsening kinetics of precipitates are described using Lifshitz-Slyozof-Wagner (LSW) theory and Trans-Interface Diffusion Controlled (TIDC) theory in the research.

Comparison of wire-arc and powder-laser additive manufacturing for IN718 superalloy: unified consideration for selecting process parameters based on volumetric energy density

Xin Lu et al.

Summary: Proper selection of initial process parameters is crucial for the successful fabrication of large IN718 superalloy parts using additive manufacturing techniques like WAAM and PLAM. The relationship between energy density and controllable parameters plays a significant role in ensuring high quality and defect-free cladding beads. The high material utilization under equal effective power and cladding speed is a major factor contributing to the efficiency of WAAM over PLAM.
