Anisotropic plasticity and fracture modelling of cold rolled AA5754

Borja Erice et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of anisotropy, loading rate, and stress state on the ductile fracture of AA5754 cold-rolled sheets. Plasticity was analyzed experimentally through biaxial and uniaxial tensile testing of specimens machined at various orientations. The material's strain rate dependency was evaluated through testing of notched tension specimens at different loading rates. Finite element simulations were performed to obtain stress and strain histories from critical elements in various loading conditions, and the anisotropic fracture initiation criterion was modified to account for loading rate effects.

Advances and challenges on springback control for creep age forming of aluminum alloy

Liwen Zhang et al.

Summary: Creep age forming (CAF) is an advanced forming technology that combines creep deformation and age hardening processes. It has many advantages such as low residual stress, dimensional stability, good performance, and short production cycle, making it optimal for manufacturing large-scale complicated thin-walled components of high strength aluminum alloys in aviation and aerospace industries. However, a major challenge of CAF is the occurrence of springback after unloading, which affects the accuracy of shaping components.

Modeling the anisotropic plasticity and damage of AA7075 alloy in hot forming

Hai Rong et al.

Summary: The theory of unified visco-plastic damage constitutive equations has been used to model the thermal flow behavior and damage evolution of materials, but the anisotropic properties were often ignored. A novel damage correction formula was proposed in this paper, integrated with a continuum damage model to establish an improved anisotropic damage constitutive model. Material constants were determined based on experimental data for accurate prediction of forming limit curves and hot forming simulations of AA7075 alloy.

Anisotropic hardening and evolution of r-values for sheet metal based on evolving non-associated Hill48 model

Zhenkai Mu et al.

Summary: The deformation behavior and yield loci of DC06 steel sheet were investigated through uniaxial and biaxial tensile tests. A proposed inverse method was used to calculate the continuous evolution of r-values, which is more accurate and simpler compared with previous methods. An evolving non-associated Hill48 anisotropic plasticity model was formulated to study the anisotropic hardening, evolution of r-values, and subsequent yield loci. Experimental and prediction results show that the developed model accurately captures the distortional hardening, evolution of r-values, and yield loci. The effect of distortional hardening and evolution of r-values on subsequent yield surfaces and plastic potential is also analyzed.

Strong in-plane anisotropy of creep ageing behavior in largely pre-deformed Al-Cu alloy: Experiments and constitutive modeling

Longhui Chen et al.

Summary: Deformation anisotropy is a key factor affecting the dimensional accuracy and performance consistency of aluminum alloy components. Understanding and modeling the anisotropic creep ageing behavior is crucial for precise creep age forming. In this study, creep ageing responses were investigated in a heavily cold-rolled Al-Cu alloy, revealing significant in-plane creep anisotropy and slight anisotropy of yield strength. Microstructural analysis showed that the strong creep anisotropy is mainly determined by the preferential alignment of dislocation cells. A mechanism-based constitutive model was established to accurately describe the in-plane creep anisotropy.

Investigation of stress effect on creep, precipitation and dislocation evolution of Al-Li alloy during creep age forming

Xi Wang et al.

Summary: The creep-ageing behavior of a 2xxx series 3rd generation Al-Li alloy in T8 state was experimentally investigated under different stresses, showing significant differences in creep strain with increasing stress levels. The dominant deformation mechanism shifted from diffusion creep to dislocation creep at higher stresses, revealing a strong stress dependent characteristic in creep deformation and evolution of dislocation density and precipitate size during creep-ageing.

Phase transformation and plastic behavior of QP steel sheets: Transformation kinetics-informed modeling and forming limit prediction

Ji He et al.

Summary: This study successfully addressed the contradiction in the previous model by introducing martensitic transformation and utilizing an asymmetric yield function based on the proposed work-conjugate framework. The yield surface of QP980 steel was stabilized using this framework, and the correlation between microstructure evolution, microstructure volume fraction, and stress-strain response was accurately predicted. This study provided a framework to understand the impact of microstructure evolution on the final forming limits of QP steel sheets and suggested that optimizing the strain path design can enhance the plastic limit before localized necking.

Constitutive modeling of commercial pure titanium sheet based on non-associated flow rule and differential hardening

Jinjae Kim et al.

Summary: The commercial-pure titanium (CP-Ti) sheet is highly regarded in biomedical and aerospace industries for its lightweight, high strength, good formability, and corrosion resistance. This study developed a material model considering the differential hardening behavior and changing R-value of CP-Ti sheet, and used it to simulate a deep drawing process. The comparison results showed that the developed material model accurately predicted the mechanical behavior in forming simulations.

Summary: A stress invariant-based yield function is proposed in this research to precisely model the differential strain hardening behavior under different stress states. The convex domain of the proposed function is computed using a numerical convex analysis method, and the parameters of the function are analytically computed based on experimental data. Anisotropy in creep-aging behavior of Al-Li alloy under different stress levels: experimental and constitutive modeling

Nanhui Peng et al.

Summary: The anisotropy in creep aging behavior and microstructural evolution of AA2195-T34 Al-Li alloy plates under different stress levels at 180 degrees C were systematically investigated. The results showed that the creep strain and strength exhibited anisotropic behavior depending on the angle relative to the rolling direction. A constitutive model considering the anisotropy of creep deformation and aging strengthening was established, providing accurate predictions.

Formability prediction of substrate-supported metal layers using a non-associated plastic flow rule

Summary: This study investigates the impact of adhering an elastomer substrate to metal sheets on the ductility of the metal layer. Numerical analysis is used to predict the localization of plastic strain within the metal layer. The results show that the ductility limits predicted by the non-associated elasto-plastic model are lower than those determined by an associated plasticity model, and that adhering an elastomer layer can delay the onset of plastic strain localization.
