Older age, carotid artery stenosis, and female sex as factors correlated with twisted carotid bifurcation based on 457 angiographic studies

Joji Tokugawa et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of twisted carotid bifurcation (TCB) in patients with internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis and other diverse pathologies. The results showed that older patients, female patients, and patients with ICA stenosis or occlusion are more prone to have TCB.

Surgical and embryological perspective of a big loop of internal carotid artery extending laterally beyond internal jugular vein

Satheesha B. Nayak et al.

Summary: Knowledge of variations of the internal carotid artery is crucial for surgeons and radiologists. A case of a large loop of the internal carotid artery in a male cadaver aged about 75 years is reported in this study. This uncommon variation may alter blood flow to the brain and cause misperceptions in surgical, imaging, and invasive procedures.

Hyoid Elongation May Be a Rare Cause of Recurrent Ischemic Stroke in Youth-A Case Report and Literature Review

Gang Liu et al.

Summary: The investigation of etiology of ischemic stroke in young adults is challenging, with hyoid bone-related carotid injury being a rare and under-recognized cause. A case of recurrent ischemic stroke in a young patient was possibly attributed to impingement of the carotid artery by an elongated hyoid bone, with anticoagulation added after repeated recurrences under antiplatelet treatment.

Aortic Origins of the Celiac Trunk and Superior Mesenteric Artery

Mugurel Constantin Rusu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the vertebral level of origin of the celiac trunk and superior mesenteric artery using CT angiograms and a grading system. Results showed a highly significant association between the origins of the two arteries, with a difference in mean CT-SMA distance between males and females. The findings suggest that surgeons should be aware of these characteristics when planning operative procedures.
