Security by Design for Big Data Frameworks Over Cloud Computing

Feras M. Awaysheh et al.

Summary: Cloud deployment architectures have become a preferred computation model for Big Data operations, offering scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. However, the shift to cloud deployment raises new security concerns as data is no longer under direct user control. Developing a comprehensive security plan based on preliminary analysis is crucial for widespread adoption of cloud architectures.

OpenWolf: A Serverless Workflow Engine for Native Cloud-Edge Continuum

Christian Sicari et al.

Summary: Nowadays, Serverless computing, especially Function as Service (FaaS), is widely used in Cloud services due to its advantages in service costs, speed of development, and ease of deployment. However, without a Cloud broker to coordinate functions, building FaaS native applications is still not possible, limiting its usage to simple and specific jobs. This paper introduces the concept of Scientific Workflow using the FaaS paradigm to enable the realization of full Native Serverless Workflows-based applications.

Performance Evaluation of Containerization in Edge-Cloud Computing Stacks for Industrial Applications: A Client Perspective

Yu Liu et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the performance of containerization-based edge-cloud computing infrastructures from an industrial client perspective, showing that containerized edge computing performs well in terms of communication, computing, and intelligence capabilities. However, there is still room for performance improvements between current edge-cloud infrastructure implementations and time-critical industrial applications, with the suggestion of considering partitioning industrial applications into microservices during solution design.
