Lie Symmetry Analysis of the Aw-Rascle-Zhang Model for Traffic State Estimation

Andronikos Paliathanasis et al.

Summary: We extend our analysis on the Lie symmetries in fluid dynamics to macroscopic traffic estimation models. Specifically, we study the Aw-Rascle-Zhang model, which consists of two hyperbolic first-order partial differential equations. We determine the Lie symmetries, the one-dimensional optimal system, and the corresponding Lie invariants. We find that the admitted Lie symmetries form the four-dimensional Lie algebra A(4,12). The resulting one-dimensional optimal system is composed of seven one-dimensional Lie algebras. We use the Lie symmetries to define similarity transformations and derive new analytic solutions for the traffic model, discussing the qualitative behavior of the solutions.

Characteristic Decomposition of the Two-Dimensional ARZ Traffic Flow System

Xiaoqing Xin et al.

Summary: In this paper, the characteristic decomposition for the two-dimensional ARZ traffic flow system is obtained. As applications, the authors prove that the wave adjacent to a constant state is a simple wave and construct a simple wave solution. They also prove that the weak discontinuities spread along characteristic curves by use of the characteristic decomposition method. Finally, these results are extended to the pseudo-steady traffic flow system.

A fourth-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation involving power law and weak nonlocality: Its solitary waves and modulational instability analysis

K. Hosseini et al.

Summary: The present paper investigates the dynamics of solitary waves in a weakly nonlinear medium. A fourth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation is used to model the propagation of solitary waves, considering diffraction, power law nonlinearity, and weak nonlocality. Different types of localized waves, including bright and dark solitons, are derived using ansatz methods. The influence of power and nonlocality coefficients on the dynamics of bright and dark solitons is analyzed. Furthermore, the modulational instability of continuous waves in the presence of these effects is studied. The results of this paper represent a significant advancement in exploring the propagation of solitary waves in a nonlinear medium.

Advancements in Computational Techniques for Precise Solitary Wave Solutions in the (1+1)-Dimensional Mikhailov-Novikov-Wang Equation

Mostafa M. A. Khater

Summary: This study presents recent computational advancements in discovering precise and novel solitary wave solutions in the (1 + 1)-dimensional Mikhailov-Novikov-Wang (MNW) integrable equation. The introduced computational techniques, including the Khater II method, modified Rational method, and He's variational iteration method, offer robust and accurate approaches for computing solitary wave solutions. These techniques demonstrate substantial improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and the ability to explore a broader range of solitary wave solutions compared to traditional computational methods. Extensive numerical simulations and comprehensive comparisons with other computational approaches effectively demonstrate the efficacy of these techniques in identifying new solitary wave solutions and providing deeper insights into the model's behavior.

Lie symmetries and exact solutions for a fourth-order nonlinear diffusion equation

Almudena del Pilar Marquez et al.

Summary: In this paper, we analyze the symmetry reductions of a fourth-order nonlinear diffusion partial differential equation using the Lie symmetry method. By computing the commutation relations and the adjoint representation, optimal systems of one-dimensional subalgebras for each maximal Lie algebra are determined and reductions to ordinary differential equations are derived. Additionally, we study travelling wave reductions depending on the form of the two arbitrary functions and obtain soliton, kink, and periodic wave solutions.

STABILITY ANALYSIS OF MICROSCOPIC MODELS FOR TRAFFIC FLOW WITH LANE CHANGING

Matteo Piu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the mathematical modeling and stability of multi-lane traffic at the microscopic scale. It proposes simple lane changing conditions and studies the stability of steady states using a model based on two interaction terms. Numerical tests confirm the predictions of linear stability analysis and show that the model can reproduce stop & go waves, a typical feature of congested traffic.

Lie Symmetries and Solutions of Reaction Diffusion Systems Arising in Biomathematics

Mariano Torrisi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a special subclass of reaction diffusion systems with two arbitrary constitutive functions Gamma(v) and H(u,v), often used as mathematical models for biological problems and population dynamics. By utilizing weak equivalence transformation, the principal Lie algebra, L-P, is identified and classifying equations are obtained. The extensions of L-P are then derived and classified based on Gamma(v) and H(u,v), leading to the exploration of wide special classes of special solutions.
