Stochastic entropy production for continuous measurements of an open quantum system

D. Matos et al.

Summary: We investigate the total stochastic entropy production in a two-level bosonic open quantum system under time-dependent coupling with a harmonic environment. By introducing stochastic environmental disturbance to simulate a measuring device, we describe the continuous stochastic dynamics of the open system based on the Markovian approximation. The entropy production depends on the evolution of system variables and their probability density function, and it is found that under time-independent coupling, the mean rate of entropy production tends to zero indicating equilibrium, while positive mean entropy production characterizes the irreversibility of quantum measurement under time-dependent coupling, and satisfies a detailed fluctuation theorem when comparing two coupling protocols for connection and disconnection with the external measuring device.
