The intermolecular polar bond interaction and coupling induced spectral splitting phenomenon for a binary mixture

Huigang Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the aggregation-induced spectral splitting theory to explain the polarization Raman noncoincidence effect of specific polar bonds and the noncoincidence phenomenon between FT-Raman and FT-IR spectra. The vibration splitting theory is demonstrated by improving the spectral resolution with cryogenic matrix isolation techniques and identifying cases with distinguishable coupling splitting. Experimental results show the detection of monomer and dimer splitting bands of acetone when cryogenically isolated by the Ar matrix. The spectral splitting phenomenon is observed in the polarization Raman and two-dimensional infrared spectra of a beta-propiolactone (PIL)/CCl4 binary mixture, and the dynamic transformation between the monomer and dimer can be achieved and detected by adjusting the PIL concentration.

Molecular Structure and Vibrational Spectra of Water Molecules Sorbed in Poly(2-methoxyethylacrylate) Revealed by Molecular Dynamics Simulation

Nobuhiro Yasoshima et al.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulations reveal that water molecules tend to form hydrogen bonds with the carbonyl oxygen and methoxy oxygen of the PMEA side chains, enhancing the head-to-tail stacking structure. Further penetration of water into the PMEA structure gradually increases water-water hydrogen bonding, promoting the formation of water clusters even below the equilibrium water content.

Geminal Diol Formation from the Interaction of a Ketone with Water in the Gas Phase: Structure and Reactivity of Cyclooctanone-(H2O)1,2 Clusters

Ecaterina Burevschi et al.

Summary: This study reports the first evidence of geminal diol formation upon ketone hydration in the gas phase, which has implications for atmospheric chemistry and opens a new channel for secondary aerosol formation. Oxygen-atom exchange between water and cyclooctanone was observed, leading to the identification of various complexes and their binding interactions.

Investigation of hydrogen bonding in aqueous acetone mixtures by Raman spectroscopy

Bo Yang et al.

Summary: The Raman spectra of aqueous acetone solution with varying concentrations showed the destruction of water's cage structure and the formation of acetone-water complexes. The structures of acetone-water complexes changed with the volume fraction of acetone, affecting the phase transition process in methanol-water binary solution.
