An edoplasmic reticulum-targeted NIR fluorescent probe with a large Stokes shift for hypoxia imaging

Ting Lan et al.

Summary: In this study, an endoplasmic reticulum-targeting NIR fluorescent probe, ISO-NTR, was developed for selective and sensitive detection of NTR. The probe showed a large Stokes shift and 5-fold increase in fluorescence intensity. It successfully applied to in vitro and in vivo NTR imaging, providing an effective method for studying the physiological and pathological functions of NTR.

Shangli Ding et al.

Summary: The new multifunctional cyanine-based photosensitizer CLN demonstrates selective targeting of organelles and generation of fluorescence under hypoxic conditions. It can effectively generate reactive oxygen species and kill tumor cells through its response to nitroreductase. The findings suggest the potential for targeted photodynamic therapy using CLN.

Diagnosis of Bacterial Plant Diseases via a Nitroreductase-Activated Fluorescent Sensor

Yi-Xuan Fu et al.

Summary: Bacterial plant diseases pose a serious threat to human food security, causing significant reduction in agricultural yields and economic loss. A new fluorescent sensor targeting Nitroreductase (NTR) was discovered and applied to the imaging of zebrafish and pathogenic bacteria. Importantly, this sensor enabled real-time diagnosis of bacteria-infected Brassica napus L., providing a promising tool for examining temporal and spatial infection of plant pathogens in precision agriculture.

Monitoring mitochondrial nitroreductase activity in tumors and a hind-limb model of ischemia in mice using a novel activatable NIR fluorescent probe

Xiaosheng Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a mitochondria-targeted nitroreductase (NTR)-activated near-infrared fluorescent probe, CS-NO2, was developed. The probe demonstrated high sensitivity in measuring overexpressed NTR in mitochondria. Most importantly, it successfully monitored NTR activity in solid tumors and an ischemic hind-limb model in mice. These findings highlight the potential utility of the probe in diagnosing solid tumors and hypoxia-associated diseases.

A Compendium of Information on the Lysosome

Nadia Bouhamdani et al.

Summary: Lysosomes have been revealed as crucial multifaceted signaling organelles rather than mere waste bags through research in the past 15 years. They play roles in anti-cancer drug resistance and are involved in a series of molecular and functional changes during malignant transformation leading to tumor aggression, angiogenesis, and metastases. Targeting lysosomes in cancer may lead to the development of new and effective targeted therapies.
