Based on theoretical calculations designed a novel dual-channel chemo-sensor for Mg2+and Zn2+detection and bioimaging applications

Kezhen Zhang et al.

Summary: Mg2+ and Zn2+ are essential metal ions for organism growth and development. A novel Schiff-based dual-channel fluorescein-derived chemo-sensor (FHBS) was developed for their efficient detection. The optimized experimental findings showed that FHBS selectively responded to Mg2+ in DMSO/H2O and Zn2+ in DMF/H2O. The linear detection range and limits were determined, and FHBS was successfully applied in live imaging of cells and zebrafish.

A tetraphenylethene-based Schiff base AIEgen with a large Stokes shift as probe for highly sensitive and selective detection of aqueous symbolscript ions and its application in cell imaging

Jiakun Bai et al.

Summary: An AIE-active tetraphenylethene-based Schiff base fluorescent probe 3 with a large Stokes shift (247 nm) was designed and synthesized. Aggregated probe 3 demonstrated high selectivity and anti-interference ability for symbolscript in PBS buffer (70% fw) through a fluorescence turn-off strategy. The interaction between probe 3 and symbolscript ions was found to be strong, as indicated by Stern-Volmer analysis and binding constant calculation. Furthermore, probe 3 showed excellent sensitivity toward symbolscript at ppb level (4.5 nM), and it achieved high recovery rates in river, lake, and tap water. Additionally, probe 3 could be used for bioimaging of HepG2 cells and acted as a sensitive symbolscript sensor for organisms.

Influence of ortho group in rhodamine B hydrazide based Schiff base for selective recognition of Cu2+and Fe3+ions: A mechanistic approach by DFT and colorimetric studies

Mintu Thakur et al.

Summary: In this study, a computational approach was used to design sensor molecules for the selective recognition of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions. The chemosensing properties of seven rhodamine B hydrazide-based Schiff base derivatives were analyzed theoretically in ethanol solution. Theoretical calculations showed that the selective recognition of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions occurred through spirolactam ring-opening, and ortho substituents and N-heteroatoms played a pivotal role. The two best chemosensors were synthesized and utilized for the colorimetric detection of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions.

A 1,3,4-thiadiazole functionalized Schiff base based fluorescence enhancement and colorimetric probe for detection of Cu (II) ion and its potential applications

Jianing Zhao et al.

Summary: A fluorescence enhancement probe XS-1 was synthesized for the detection of Cu2+ ions based on coumarin, 1,3,4-thiadiazole, and Schiff base cores. XS-1 exhibited high selectivity and anti-interference, allowing for visual detection of Cu2+ ions by naked eyes. The behavior of XS-1 towards Cu2+ ions was investigated through 1H NMR titration, HRMS titration, and DFT calculations.

Salicylimine-based fluorescent chemosensor for magnesium ions in aqueous solution

Reza Azadbakht et al.

Summary: A new fluorescent schiff base chemosensor, H2L, was successfully designed for sensitive and selective sensing of Mg2+ ions, showing a remarkable fluorescence enhancement upon formation of the [MgL] complex. The sensor had a satisfactory linear relationship between added concentrations of Mg2+ and fluorescence intensity, with a detection limit of 3.04 x 10(-9) M and satisfying the conditions of INHIBIT molecular logic gate for Mg2+ and Fe3+ ions.
