Study of charge transfer effect in Surface-Enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) by using Antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles as substrates with tunable optical band gaps and free charge carrier densities

Meng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of antimony-doped tin oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and used as SERS substrates for the first time, revealing a dependence of the SERS enhancement on the doping ratios. The research indicates a connection between the enhancement effect and the variation of optical band gap energy and free charge carrier densities in conduction bands of the nanoparticles. This provides a new perspective for the development of semiconductor-based SERS substrates and contributes to the understanding of the SERS charge transfer mechanism.

Enhanced charge-transfer induced by conduction band electrons in aluminum-doped zinc oxide/molecule/Ag sandwich structures observed by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

Yanan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the importance of enhancing charge transfer in the AZO/MPy/Ag sandwich structure, and identifies a significant CT route from the CB of AZO to the LUMO of the MPy molecule, which can effectively improve the degree of CT. This discovery is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing SERS.

Observation of tunable surface plasmon resonances and surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) based on indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticle substrates

Yan Ma et al.

Summary: The application of surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) is limited by the use of expensive noble metal substrates. This study introduces a new semiconductor SEIRA substrate, indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles, and demonstrates their SEIRA property. Furthermore, the results show that the doping ratio of tin heteroatoms in ITO nanoparticles affects the enhancement factor.

Effects of different Al2O3 support on HDPE gasification for enhanced hydrogen generation using Ni-based catalysts

Abid Farooq et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Ni loading on different types of alumina for enhanced hydrogen generation during high-density polyethylene gasification. The results showed that the 13 nm-sized Al2O3 exhibited the highest catalytic activity among the alumina types. The use of Ni-loaded nm-sized alumina could be an excellent method for increased hydrogen production due to its higher Ni dispersion and surface area.

Surface Plasmon Resonance from Gallium-Doped Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles and Their Electromagnetic Enhancement Contribution to Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering

Yanan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Ga-doped ZnO nanoparticles as novel SERS substrates based on the electromagnetic enhancement contribution of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). It was found that Ga-doped ZnO NPs with the highest free charge carrier density and a doping ratio of 5% exhibited the strongest SERS spectra. The study showed the feasibility of electromagnetic contributions to SERS using semiconductive substrates and could contribute to the development of the semiconductor-based EM mechanism.
