The Role of Strontium in CeNiO3 Nano-Crystalline Perovskites for Greenhouse Gas Mitigation to Produce Syngas

Naushad Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic performance and stability of CexSr1-xNiO3 nanocrystalline perovskite catalysts for hydrogen production via methane reforming using carbon dioxide. It is found that strontium incorporation enhances the specific surface area, number of reducible species, and nickel dispersion. The catalytic performance results show that the addition of strontium decreases the conversion rates due to the coverage of nickel active sites by strontium carbonate. The durability results indicate that CeNiO3 exhibits deactivation, while Ce0.8Sr0.2NiO3 and Ce0.6Sr0.4NiO3 do not show deactivation.

Perovskite-type catalysts based on nickel applied in the Oxy-CO2 reforming of CH4: Effect of catalyst nature and operative conditions

Summary: The study found that the addition of strontium led to a less active catalyst, while the replacement of lanthanum with cerium increased the overall activity of the catalyst. Nickel-based catalysts play a crucial role in the methane Oxy-CO2 reforming reaction.

Characterization and catalytic activity of soft-templated NiO-CeO2 mixed oxides for CO and CO2 co-methanation

Luciano Atzori et al.

Summary: Nanosized NiO, CeO(2)and NiO-CeO(2)mixed oxides were prepared using the soft template method, resulting in nanocrystals of about 4 nm in size regardless of the Ni/Ce molar ratio. Defective sites were formed at the NiO-CeO(2)interface, with strong interaction between Ni species and the support, and CeO(2) showed effective adsorption of CO2. The NiCe system showed promising catalytic performance in CO(x)co-methanation reaction under various conditions and remained stable after thermal stress for up to 50 hours, indicating potential for practical applications.

A review on dry reforming of methane over perovskite derived catalysts

Srikar Bhattar et al.

Summary: Perovskite-derived catalysts in dry reforming of methane exhibit superior catalytic performance due to the synergistic effects of bimetallic addition at the B site and enhanced oxygen mobility through A site substitutions. The use of high surface area supports also greatly influences the physicochemical and catalytic behavior of perovskite-derived catalysts. The exsolution process involved in the reduction of perovskite catalysts produces smaller size metal particles which dictate the superior catalytic performance of these materials.

Syngas Production via CO2 Reforming of Methane over SrNiO3 and CeNiO3 Perovskites

Naushad Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study compared the catalytic activity and stability of SrNiO3 and CeNiO3 perovskites in dry reforming of methane (DRM), with CeNiO3 showing higher activity and durability. CeNiO3 has a higher specific surface area, pore volume, and number of reducible species compared to SrNiO3, resulting in higher conversions of CH4 and CO2. The deactivation of both catalysts is mainly attributed to carbon deposition, with SrNiO3 exhibiting more deactivation than CeNiO3.

Effect of NH3 Alkalization and MgO Promotion on the Performance of Ni/SBA-15 Catalyst in Combined Steam and Carbon Dioxide Reforming of Methane

Phan H. Phuong et al.

Summary: Concentration of ammonia solution and Mg content have significant effects on the properties of Ni/SBA-15 catalysts. Alkalized Ni/SBA-15 with moderate NH3(aq) concentration and Mg promoter exhibited high activity for CH4 conversion. Ni9Mg/SBA-15 catalyst showed the highest CO2 conversion among tested samples.
