Molecularly Imprinted Polymers as Synthetic Antibodies for Protein Recognition: The Next Generation

Bernadette Tse Sum Bui et al.

Summary: Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are synthetic polymers that mimic antibodies by nanomoulding the shape and chemical functionalities of a target molecule. They show exquisite molecular recognition ability and have potential applications in diagnostics and therapeutics, replacing antibodies. This review focuses on the development of MIPs targeting proteins, from their synthesis in bulk format to soluble nanogels, with emphasis on epitope imprinting for selective recognition of macromolecules.

Multi-Functional Nanocavities Fabricated Using Molecular Imprinting and Post-Imprinting Modifications for Efficient Biomarker Detection

Hirobumi Sunayama et al.

Summary: Antibodies and enzymes are considered as gold-standard molecular recognition elements due to their high specificity and affinity, but their low stability and high production cost limit practical applications, leading to the development of alternative molecular recognition elements such as molecularly imprinted polymers. Post-imprinting modification techniques offer a way to enhance the sensitivity and functionality of MIPs for recognizing biomarker proteins, contributing to the development of synthetic polymer materials for biosensing.

Molecularly imprinted polymer nanogel-based fluorescence sensing of pork contamination in halal meat extracts

Chehasan Cheubong et al.

Summary: Pork contamination is a serious issue in the global halal food market. A highly sensitive fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymer nanogel (F-MIP-NG)-based sensor was developed for rapid porcine serum albumin (PSA) detection, showing high analytical performance and a low detection limit for detecting pork contamination in halal meat samples.

Preparation of IgG imprinted polymers by metal-free visible-light-induced ATRP and its application in biosensor

Ru Bai et al.

Summary: In this study, IgG imprinted polymers were successfully prepared on a modified electrode surface, allowing for the detection of IgG with a wider linear range and lower detection limit compared to similar sensors. This non-toxic biosensor introduced an easy method for IgG determination and showcased a progressive approach for designing protein imprinted polymers.

Fluorescent Signaling of Molecularly Imprinted Nanogels Prepared via Postimprinting Modifications for Specific Protein Detection

Katsuki Tsutsumi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the fluorescent signaling of nanogels (NGs) for protein detection prepared by molecular imprinting and postimprinting modification (PIM). The FL-MIP-NGs selectively detect human serum albumin (HSA) in real samples with high-affinity fluorescence changes. The proposed NGs functionalized via PIMs serve as advanced functional materials for sensing biorelated compounds.
