Hydrogen bond network and bond valence analysis on uranyl sulfate compounds with organic-based interstitial cations

Tsuyoshi A. Kohlgruber et al.

Summary: Seven new uranyl sulfate compounds with organic charge-balancing cations have been synthesized and analyzed. Comparisons and analyses were done on 54 known uranyl sulfate compounds with organic charge-balancing cations, including the seven newly synthesized compounds. The study helps understand how the organic cations stabilize the crystal structures of these materials.

Effect of Ionothermal Conditions on the Crystallization of Organically Templated Uranyl Sulfate Compounds

Tsuyoshi A. Kohlgruber et al.

Summary: Seven novel uranyl sulfate compounds were crystallized by ionothermal synthesis methods with systematic changes in experimental conditions. Despite all compounds containing the EMIm organic cation of the ionic liquid, different synthetic conditions resulted in varying uranyl coordination environments and discrete crystal structures. The impact of ionothermal synthetic conditions on resulting crystal structures is discussed in the study.

Summary: Uranyl selenate compounds exhibit diverse structural arrangements and vibrational signals, with structural features linked to the hydrogen bonding network associated with heterocycles and selenate anions. The vibrational spectra of these compounds are complex, showing variations in bands associated with the uranyl cation, selenate anion, and heteroatoms.

Crystal Chemistry and Structural Complexity of the Uranyl Carbonate Minerals and Synthetic Compounds

Vladislav V. Gurzhiy et al.

Summary: Uranyl carbonates are a large group of secondary uranium(VI)-bearing natural phases, with most synthetic analogs obtained from aqueous solutions at room temperature. The structural architecture of uranyl carbonates is mainly influenced by interstitial cations and the hydration state of the compounds, composed of finite clusters with rigid structures. Natural compounds generally exhibit higher stability and preferred architectures compared to synthetic compounds of similar chemical composition.

Crystal chemistry of the M2+[(UO2)(T6+O4)2(H2O)](H2O)4 (M2+ = Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Zn; T6+ = S, Se) compounds: the interplay between chemical composition, pH and structural architecture

Ilya V. Kornyakov et al.

Summary: The crystallization of M2+[(UO2)(T6+O4)(2)(H2O)](H2O)(4) compounds involves three structure types with different stacking sequences described by 1M, 2O, and 2M polytypic modifications. The interaction between chemical composition and structural architecture is influenced by the ionic radii of M2+ and T6+ cations, as well as the pH of the initial solutions. Reinvestigation of previously studied Co and Mn uranyl sulfates revealed the importance of considering unit cell parameters and space group symmetries in understanding the crystallization process.
