Screening of biological properties of MoV2O2S2- and MoV2O4-based coordination complexes: Investigation of antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidative and antitumoral activities versus growing of Spirulina platensis biomass

Arcadie Fuior et al.

Summary: The study explores the biological potential of coordination compounds based on binuclear core [MoV2O2E2]2+ coordinated with various ligands. Results indicate weak antibacterial and antifungal properties in the complexes, with some showing antioxidant effects and others exhibiting strong antibiotic activity. Certain complexes also show positive effects on spirulina platensis growth and changes in cellular components. These findings suggest promising bioactivity and encourage further research for new, highly active yet non-toxic molecules for biological and biomedical applications.

Synthesis, Structures, and Solution Studies of a New Class of[Mo2O2S2]-Based Thiosemicarbazone Coordination Complexes

Arcadie Fuior et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the synthesis, structural studies, and behavior in solution of coordination complexes built by the association of 14 representative thiosemicarbazone ligands with the cluster [Mo2O2S2]2+. The complexes are characterized in both solid state and solution using XRD and NMR techniques. The results demonstrate that the nature and position of substituents on the ligands strongly influence the coordination modes of the ligands as well as the numbers of isomers in solution.

Base-Free Catalytic Hydrogen Production from Formic Acid Mediated by a Cubane-Type Mo3S4 Cluster Hydride

Eva Guillamon et al.

Summary: By using a cuboidal [Mo3S4H3(dmpe)(3)](+) hydride cluster as the catalyst, formic acid (FA) can be transformed into hydrogen gas and CO2 without the need for any additives. Compared to other molybdenum compounds, our catalyst has shown higher activity and selectivity. Kinetic studies, reaction monitoring, and DFT calculations have revealed the mechanism of FA dehydrogenation, which involves the formation of a dihydrogen-bonded species and subsequent release of hydrogen gas and coordination of formate. The complete cycle, including the release of CO2 and closure of the catalytic cycle, occurs at higher temperatures.

Chemical and Biological Evaluation of Thiosemicarbazone-Bearing Heterocyclic Metal Complexes

Ana Matesanz et al.

Summary: Thiosemicarbazones are a group of compounds with biological activity against microorganisms and cancer cells due to their electronic and structural properties. Heterocycles such as pyrrole and imidazole may target multiple biological processes. Researchers focus on exploring the chemistry and cytotoxicity of derivatives to understand their structure-activity relationships and promote future studies on heterocycle derivatives.
