Enhanced direct degradation of photogenerated holes induced by dissolved O2 chemisorbed on oxygen-deficient nano-TiO2

A. Shan et al.

Summary: Due to high electronegativity, dissolved O2 molecules can strongly chemisorb onto oxygen-deficient nano-TiO2, altering the photocatalytic degradation process. However, there has been a lack of sufficient investigation on the role of chemisorbed O2 on oxygen-deficient nano-TiO2. In this study, we adsorbed dissolved O2 onto oxygen-deficient nano-TiO2 by stirring for a long time, and found that it significantly enhances hydrogen bonding and increases the co-adsorption of H2O molecules and -OH groups. The presence of chemisorbed O2 promotes the separation of electron-hole pairs and enhances the direct oxidation of photogenerated holes, suggesting its importance in long continuous reactions.

Carbon nitride-based Z-scheme heterojunctions for solar-driven advanced oxidation processes

Jingkai Lin et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the application of metal-free graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) based direct and indirect Z-scheme photocatalysts in solar-driven advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for the removal of organic pollutants from water. The classification of AOPs, definition and validation of Z-schemes are discussed, followed by an examination of the engineering strategies for CN-based direct Z-scheme structure and the design of indirect CN-based Z-scheme systems using different charge mediators. The relationship between Z-scheme structure and activity is studied to gain insights into improving the catalytic performance of CN-based Z-schemes in AOPs.

Hybrid sonoprecipitation fabrication of magnetic ZnO-GO-Fe3O4 nanophotocatalyst for solar-light-driven degradation of dyes in water

Mahdi Zarrabi et al.

Summary: ZnO-GO-Fe3O4 magnetic nanocomposite was successfully prepared via a two-step procedure and its photocatalytic activity for organic dyes degradation was investigated. The nanocomposite exhibited a high surface area with a mesoporous structure and a low energy band gap when synthesized through solvothermal method. Ultrasound irradiation increased the available surface area for photoreaction. The degradation percentages of eosin yellow and methylene blue were approximately 60% and 97% respectively. The effects of initial pH, photocatalyst loading amount, and initial dye concentration were also studied.
