Observational Evidence for Cosmological Coupling of Black Holes and its Implications for an Astrophysical Source of Dark Energy

Duncan Farrah et al.

Summary: Observations have found black holes of varying masses throughout cosmic history, but the Kerr black hole solution is incomplete. Black hole models with realistic behavior predict that black holes can increase in mass with the expansion of the universe, independently of accretion or mergers. By studying supermassive black holes in elliptical galaxies, evidence is found for cosmologically coupled mass growth among these black holes, suggesting that black holes contribute as vacuum energy to the cosmological energy density.

Rotating (2+1)-dimensional black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory

Thanasis Karakasis et al.

Summary: We study the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory in (2 + 1) dimensions with the dilatonic coupling f(phi) = exp(-2 alpha phi) between the scalar field and the Maxwell invariant, and find new exact rotating black hole solutions. The dilatonic parameter alpha affects the metric function and influences the black hole's rotation, mass, and thermodynamics. The calculated entropy is always positive, and the dilatonic black holes can have higher entropy than the BTZ black hole. Depending on the parameters, the dilatonic BTZ-like black hole may be thermodynamically preferred over the BTZ black hole, which is recovered when alpha = 0.

First Sagittarius A* Event Horizon Telescope Results. I. The Shadow of the Supermassive Black Hole in the Center of the Milky Way

Kazunori Akiyama et al.

Summary: This study presents the first observations of Sagittarius A* using the Event Horizon Telescope. The data supports the presence of a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, with an image that is consistent with the expected appearance of a Kerr black hole. The results also connect dynamical measurements of stellar orbits to event-horizon-scale images.

Regular black holes without mass inflation instability

Raul Carballo-Rubio et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of inner horizon surface gravity on the stability of black holes and finds that regular black holes typically exhibit exponential instability. However, by constructing specific geometries, it is possible to avoid this instability and provide an interesting alternative solution.

Magnetically charged Euler-Heisenberg black holes with scalar hair

Thanasis Karakasis et al.

Summary: The paper investigates the Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg theory with a self interacting scalar field coupled to gravity. The analytical solution for the magnetically charged case reveals the existence of novel magnetically charged hairy black holes. The scalar field adds secondary scalar hair to the black hole. The black hole exhibits three horizons for small Euler-Heisenberg parameter and magnetic charge, and the horizon radius increases with large scalar charge and gravitational mass. The presence of matter and magnetic field outside the black hole horizon only affects the temperature of small black holes. The heat capacity analysis indicates a second order phase transition and stabilization of the asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) Euler-Heisenberg hairy black hole. Additionally, the weak energy condition is violated in the asymptotically AdS Euler-Heisenberg hairy black hole.

Disformal transition of a black hole to a wormhole in scalar-tensor Horndeski theory

Nikos Chatzifotis et al.

Summary: We consider disformal transformations within a subclass of Horndeski theory, where a scalar field is kinetically coupled to the Einstein tensor. By applying a disformal transformation on a hairy black hole solution, we observe a transition from a black hole to a wormhole. Additionally, we find a violation of the null energy condition in the wormhole configuration and investigate the stability of the wormhole solution by calculating the time evolution of scalar perturbations in this geometry.

(2+1)-dimensional black holes in f (R,φ) gravity

Thanasis Karakasis et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate a f(R) gravity theory in (2 + 1)-dimensions with a self-interacting scalar field non-minimally coupled to gravity. We find that the Ricci scalar receives a nonlinear correction term, resulting in a massless black hole solution. When the nonlinear term decouples, a well-known hairy black hole solution with the scalar field conformally coupled to gravity is obtained. In addition, we observe that the entropy of our black hole may be higher than that of the corresponding conformal black hole, suggesting a thermodynamic preference for our solution.

A new model of regular black hole in (2+1) dimensions

Milko Estrada et al.

Summary: This study presents a new regular black hole solution in (2+1) dimensions with matter fields, showing that the solution can have different types of core depending on the proposed energy density and negative cosmological constant. The modification of the first law of thermodynamics for regular black holes due to the presence of matter fields is addressed, with a new version of the first law proposed. The effectiveness of the formalism used to compute the mass of regular black holes in (2+1) dimensions suggests potential applicability to other models in dimensions greater than or equal to four.

Disformal mappings of spherical DHOST geometries

Valerio Faraoni et al.

Summary: New solutions of DHOST theories can be generated by applying a disformal transformation to known seed solutions, which can result in black hole horizons, wormhole throats, or horizonless geometries. Disforming non-stealth, time-dependent seeds can lead to the creation of these new solutions.

Regular black holes in three dimensions

Pablo Bueno et al.

Summary: A plethora of new analytic black holes and globally regular horizonless spacetimes in three dimensions have been discovered, with solutions involving a single real scalar field. The new metrics are continuous generalizations of the BTZ solution, solving the Einstein gravity equations corrected by a new family of densities. Some solutions describe black holes with one or several horizons, while others have curvature singularities or are completely regular. Additionally, there are solutions describing globally regular and horizonless geometries.

Black holes of (2+1)-dimensional f (R) gravity coupled to a scalar field

Thanasis Karakasis et al.

Summary: The study investigates f(R) gravity theories with a scalar field coupled to gravity in (2+1) dimensions, with a self-interacting potential. Without specifying the form of the f(R) function, an exact black hole solution with scalar hair and associated scalar charge is obtained, along with discussions on its thermodynamics. At large distances, this solution forms a hairy Banados, Teitelboim, and Zanelli (BTZ) black hole, reducing to the BTZ black hole when the scalar field decouples. Another exact hairy black hole solution resembling the BTZ black hole with phantom hair is found in a pure f(R) gravity setting supported by the scalar field, with an analytic f(R) form discussed in terms of its thermodynamics.
