A new design of soft texture analyzer tribometer (STAT) for in vitro oral lubrication study

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on improving the reliability and feasibility of a tribometer for testing oral lubrication by introducing a lighter and soft probe. The use of various near-Newtonian fluids allowed for the examination of friction coefficients and lubrication behavior, with results suggesting promising application potential for in vitro oral lubrication studies.

A new biomimetic set -up to understand the role of the kinematic, mechanical, and surface characteristics of the tongue in food oral tribological studies

Rohit Srivastava et al.

Summary: A biomimetic tribological set-up was developed to integrate physiological characteristics in oral friction studies, allowing for the measurement of how food properties, TMS properties and operational parameters affect friction coefficient values. The results showed that the presence of particles led to an increase in friction coefficient values, while food viscosity had a less significant impact. Additionally, increasing surface roughness and bulk rigidity of the TMSs markedly augmented the friction coefficient values.

Tribology of hard particles lubricating soft surfaces

Raisa E. D. Rudge et al.

Summary: Soft PDMS surfaces lubricated by hard glass spheres exhibit different frictional regimes due to deformability, including rolling friction, sliding friction, and PDMS-PDMS contact regime, which are interpreted in terms of Hertzian contact deformation effects on the surfaces.
