Ginsenosides accumulation and related genes expression in different underground parts of Panax notoginseng during maturation stage

Qingyan Tang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the temporospatial distribution and variation mechanism of ginsenosides in the underground parts of three-year-old Panax notoginseng plants. Results showed that ginsenoside accumulation in rhizomes accelerated from May, with the content in xylem and epidermis higher than that in the rhizome during different growth stages. Gene expression variations played a crucial role in the fluctuation of ginsenoside accumulation in different tissues. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis revealed numerous transcripts that regulated ginsenoside accumulation in underground tissues.

Drought and Heat Stress-Mediated Modulation of Alternative Splicing in the Genes Involved in Biosynthesis of Metabolites Related to Tea Quality

Y. Q. Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, Iso-seq and RNA-seq technologies were used to identify alternative splicing (AS) events in tea plants under drought, heat stress, and their combination conditions. The AS events were validated in nine genes involved in the biosynthesis of amino acids and flavonoids. The results suggested that AS might specifically regulate the biosynthesis of amino acids in tea plants under stressful conditions and the AS events within ANR and DFRA transcripts might play an important role in the regulation of flavonoid biosynthesis.

Alternative splicing analysis provides insight into the domestication and improvement of pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) fruit

Mengyan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the functional impacts of alternative splicing (AS) on fruit quality during domestication and improvement of pear were investigated. The results showed that AS affected glycosylation and carbohydrate metabolism during domestication and was enriched in response to chemical stimulus during improvement. Additionally, differential alternatively spliced serine/arginine-rich (SR) genes were identified, suggesting their regulatory roles in AS during the two processes. Furthermore, candidate AS genes related to fruit traits were screened out, providing valuable references for improving fruit quality in other fruit tree crops.

Correlations between ecological factors and the chemical compositions of mountainous forest cultivated ginseng

Lianlian Zhu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that warmer, humid, and shady environments favor the accumulation of ginsenosides in mountainous forest cultivated ginseng, while conditions such as lower temperature, more precipitation, weaker light, and higher altitude are beneficial for amino acid accumulation. Mineral elements contribute to the accumulation of amino acids, but soil acidification is unfavorable.

Alternative Splicing and Its Roles in Plant Metabolism

Pui Ying Lam et al.

Summary: Plant metabolism plays a crucial role in plant survival, growth, development, and interaction with the environment. It is tightly regulated at transcriptional, post-transcriptional, translational, and post-translational levels in response to different growth stages and changing environment. Alternative splicing, a post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism, generates multiple protein isoforms from a single gene and regulates plant metabolism by altering biochemical activities, protein interactions, and subcellular localization.
