Influence of Built Environment on Micromobility-Pedestrian Accidents

Summary: The use of micromobility as a sustainable urban transport option has increased globally, but this growth has led to a significant number of micromobility-related accidents. While previous studies have focused on improving the safety of micromobility users, the threat to pedestrians is not well understood. This study aims to identify built environment factors contributing to micromobility-pedestrian accidents using crash data from Seoul, Korea. The analysis reveals that road intersections, sidewalks, and subway entrances have a significant impact on such accidents, suggesting the need for safety measures such as speed limits, modified sidewalk designs, and strategically placed micromobility stations.

Assessment of the Improvement of Public Transport in Hillside Cities Considering the Impact of Topography on Walking Choices

Summary: This study examines the benefits of considering topography in the implementation of public transport systems and improving mobility in a hillside district in Yokohama, Japan. A multinomial logit model that incorporates topography is developed to describe mode choice and utility-based accessibilities are calculated to analyze the improvement resulting from the new service. The results demonstrate the impact of implementing the new service, highlight the importance of considering topography in hillside cities, and underscore the significance of the utility-based accessibility approach as a relevant methodology.

The Impact of the Neighborhood Built Environment on the Walking Activity of Older Adults: A Multi-Scale Spatial Heterogeneity Analysis

Summary: This study used a multi-scale geographically weighted regression model to analyze the impact of the built environment on walking activities of 863 older adults in Taiyuan, China. The results showed that the intensity of the explanatory variables' influence ranked by number of retail establishments, pedestrian crossings, restaurants, residential density, land use combination, recreation facilities, and bus stops, with recreation and public service facilities having larger spatial scales.
