Morphology analysis of the C2 pediculoisthmic component and feasibility of safe C2 pedicle screw placement: comparison of multiplanar reconstruction versus traditional radiographic methods

YueLin Wu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the feasibility of conventional CT measurements of C2 pediculoisthmic component (PIC) and created an accurate predictor of C2 PIC morphometrics. The results showed that the outer diameter of OPW could accurately predict MPD, making it safer than conventional measurement methods (TPW and HRVA) for C2 pedicle screw placement.

Atlantoaxial posterior screw fixation using intra-operative spinal navigation with three-dimensional isocentric C-arm fluoroscopy

Gianpaolo Jannelli et al.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed the accuracy and reliability of posterior atlanto-axial fixation using spinal navigation combined with intra-operative 3D isocentric C-arm. The results showed that all cases achieved acceptable screw positioning, with no vertebral artery injury observed and no screw loosening or displacement at three-month follow-up.

Reconstruction of the Cervical Lateral Mass Using 3-Dimensional-Printed Prostheses

Qiang Jian et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the outcome of using 3D-printed prostheses for cervical lateral mass reconstruction. The results showed stable internal fixation postoperatively in all 7 patients, with no implant-related complications observed. In conclusion, a 3D-printed prosthesis can be considered as a good option for reconstructing the cervical lateral mass.

Summary: A study on patients treated with endoscopic endonasal odontoidectomy for craniovertebral junction disease showed promising outcomes even without posterior fixation, suggesting that the endonasal approach is a valid option for lesions above the nasopalatine line.

Reconstruction after resection of C2 vertebral tumors: A comparative study of 3D-printed vertebral body versus titanium mesh

Panpan Hu et al.

Summary: The surgical resection of C2 vertebral tumors is challenging due to complex anatomy and surgical exposure difficulties. Personalized AVBs have shown to provide reliable reconstruction outcomes, but further modifications are needed to overcome minor pitfalls. There is a high risk of perioperative complications, and staged posterior and anterior approaches are recommended as better surgical strategies for C2 tumors.
