Application of Liquid-Liquid Extraction for the Determination of Antibiotics in the Foodstuff: Recent Trends and Developments

Seyed Amin Khatibi et al.

Summary: Nowadays, antibiotic residues in foods with animal origin pose a significant challenge to public health authorities. The presence of antibiotic residues can lead to various health issues and the development of antibiotic resistance pathogens. Therefore, it is crucial to develop rapid, sensitive, and accurate analytical methods for detecting trace levels of antibiotics in food. Liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) is a commonly used sample preparation technique, and recent developments have focused on improving the efficiency and safety of this method.

Simultaneous preconcentration and determination of sulfonamide antibiotics in milk and yoghurt by dynamic pH junction focusing coupled with capillary electrophoresis

Nadhiratul-Farihin Semail et al.

Summary: A dynamic pH junction was utilized in capillary electrophoresis to preconcentrate, separate, and determine trace amounts of sulfonamide antibiotics in milk and yoghurt samples. The method demonstrated good linearity, low limits of detection, and acceptable analytes recovery, with quantification limits below the maximum residue limit approved by the European Union. Sensitivity enhancement factors of up to 129 were achieved with the optimized dynamic pH junction using CE with a diode array detector.
