A visible light-induced decarboxylative amination of indoline-2-carboxylic acids and azodicarboxylate esters has been developed, in which the oxidation of alpha-amino acids provides a versatile CO2-extrusion platform to generate alpha-aminoalkyl radicals. The corresponding products were obtained with yields of up to 72% catalyzed by a metal-free photocatalyst under mild conditions.
