The significance of nanofiber polyglycolic acid for promoting tissue repair in a rat subcutaneous implantation model

Yu Sueyoshi et al.

Summary: This study focused on the dynamics of cells migrating within nanofiber-based polyglycolic acid (PGA) fabric and assessed the effectiveness of nano-PGA in subcutaneous tissue repair. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that nano-PGA induced an early inflammatory response, followed by phagocytosis and tissue repair. In contrast, conventional PGA resulted in prolonged inflammation and discontinuous collagen fiber formation, without promoting tissue repair.

Donor site complications and satisfaction in autologous fat grafting for breast reconstruction: A systematic review

Jamilla L. M. Wederfoort et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines the current literature on donor site complications and satisfaction following autologous fat transfer for breast reconstruction. The results suggest that there are various complications at the donor site, but limited evaluation of satisfaction. Further research is needed to establish standardized reporting methods and long-term follow-up to better understand the impact of autologous fat grafting on patient quality of life.

Clinical Manifestations and Surgical Management of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma: Beyond the NCCN Guidelines

Heather A. Lillemoe et al.

Summary: Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare lymphoma that arises in response to textured-surface breast implants. It typically presents as swelling around the implant after breast reconstruction or cosmetic augmentation, but can also manifest as invasive masses or enlarged lymph nodes. There is currently limited surgical guidance for patients with more aggressive BIA-ALCL presentations.

Preliminary report of de novo adipogenesis using novel bioabsorbable implants and image evaluation using a porcine model

Shuichi Ogino et al.

Summary: This study investigated the formation of adipose tissue using bioabsorbable poly-l-lactic acid mesh implants containing collagen sponge and evaluated the process using multimodal images. The findings suggest that MRI is an appropriate method to assess the volume of the implant aggregate and formation of adipose tissue.

Development of gelatin hydrogel nonwoven fabrics (Genocel®) as a novel skin substitute in murine skin defects

Yuanjiaozi Li et al.

Summary: The study concluded that Genocel (R) can serve as an equivalent skin substitute for wound healing, demonstrating comparable performance to conventional substitutes. Additionally, Genocel (R) exhibited the ability to accelerate capillary formation, making it a more suitable treatment option for chronic skin ulcers such as diabetic ulcers.

Post-traumatic chest wall lipoma in a violinist: fact or fiction?

Ergin Erginoz et al.

Summary: Lipomas are the most common benign subcutaneous soft tissue tumours, with a prevalence of 2.1%. The pathophysiology of lipoma development following soft tissue trauma is not fully understood, but features such as inflammatory cells and fat necrosis may be involved.

Polyglycolic acid mesh for preventing post-thoracoscopic bullectomy recurrence

Eiji Miyahara et al.

Summary: Thoracoscopic bullectomy with polyglycolic acid mesh coverage resulted in a significantly lower recurrence rate of pneumothorax compared to conventional thoracoscopic bullectomy. However, it was associated with a slightly elevated inflammatory response postoperatively.

Histopathological and Radiographic Features of Osteolysis After Fixation of Osteochondral Fragments Using Poly-L-Lactic Acid Pins for Osteochondral Lesions of the Talus

Yasunari Ikuta et al.

Summary: After studying 20 patients with OLT, it was found that postoperative osteolysis is related to histopathological findings in subchondral bone and preoperative Hounsfield unit (HU) values. Preoperative deterioration in subchondral trabecular bone structure may predict the occurrence of postoperative osteolysis surrounding the PLLA pin.

Long-term outcomes of breast reconstruction and the need for revision surgery

Ben Finlay et al.

Summary: Breast reconstruction is a common part of breast cancer treatment journey, with around one-third of patients requiring revision surgery. Implant-based reconstructions have a higher revision rate compared to pedicled flap reconstructions, and radiotherapy increases the need for revision surgery post-reconstruction.
