Fast and effective removal of Pb(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions from aqueous solutions with TiO2 nanofibers: Synthesis, adsorption-desorption process and kinetic studies

Hacer Sibel Karapinar et al.

Summary: Titanium oxide (TiO2) nanofibers were synthesized and found to be an effective adsorbent for the efficient removal of Ni(II), Pb(II), and Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The adsorption experiments revealed that the optimum pH for maximum adsorption of the metal ions was 6, with an equilibration time of 28 minutes. The adsorption data fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. Thermodynamic studies suggested that the adsorption process of the ions was endothermic and spontaneous. The TiO2 nanofibers adsorbent demonstrated eco-friendliness, low cost, high stability, and non-toxicity, and could be reused multiple times to efficiently remove heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions.

Ni-doping-induced oxygen vacancy in Pt-CeO2 catalyst for toluene oxidation: Enhanced catalytic activity, water-resistance, and SO2-tolerance

Menglan Xiao et al.

Summary: This study constructs a Pt/Ni-CeO2 catalyst via Ni doping, which enhances the catalytic performance of toluene and improves water- and SO2-tolerance. The introduction of Ni induces the generation of abundant oxygen vacancies, facilitating the activation of oxygen species, while the formation of Pt-NiO interface structure restrains the adsorption of water and SO2 molecules.

Interfacial engineering of Ni(OH)2 on W2C for remarkable alkaline hydrogen production

Hong Chuan Fu et al.

Summary: A novel W2C-Ni(OH)(2) electrocatalyst has been developed, showing superior hydrogen evolution reaction efficiency in alkaline environment compared to commercial Pt/C catalyst. Experimental and theoretical results suggest that Ni(OH)(2) facilitates water dissociation, while W2C serves as the site for hydrogen adsorption and desorption.

Self-activated Ni(OH)2 cathode for complete electrochemical reduction of trichloroethylene to ethane in low-conductivity groundwater

Jia Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electrochemical dechlorination of trichloroethylene (TCE) to non-toxic and valueadded ethane by self-activated Ni(OH)(2) cathode. The results show that Ni(OH)(2) cathode can efficiently transform TCE to ethane in a low-conductivity simulated groundwater environment, demonstrating its superior antioxidative capacity.

Novel approach of in-situ nickel capture technology to recycle silver and palladium from waste nickel-rich multilayer ceramic capacitors

Ya Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel approach to recycle silver and palladium from waste nickel-rich MLCCs using in-situ nickel capture technology, achieving recovery rates of over 98%. Analysis of the alloy showed that nickel and silver formed two phases, with palladium existing in the silver phase. Recycling of the slag was achieved through crystallization.

Intensification and optimisation of nickel recovery from spent hydrogenation catalysts via ultrasound-augmented hydrometallurgy

Mitchell S. W. Lim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of ultrasonic irradiation for enhancing nickel extraction from spent catalysts, finding that nitric acid was a more efficient leaching agent than sulfuric acid. By optimizing the process using response surface methodology, a nickel recovery rate of 99.37% was achieved under the modeled optimal conditions. The study demonstrated the beneficial application of ultrasound technology in hydrometallurgical processes for higher recovery efficiencies.
