In Utero and Childhood/Adolescence Exposure to Tobacco Smoke, Genetic Risk, and Lung Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Adulthood

Heng He et al.

Summary: This study found that in utero tobacco exposure significantly increased the risk of lung cancer, and early smoking initiation in adulthood, adolescence, and childhood also increased the risk. Additionally, individuals with high polygenic risk scores (PRSs) and in utero tobacco exposure had a higher risk of lung cancer incidence and mortality, as did those with high PRSs and smoking initiation in childhood.

Trends in Secondhand Smoke Exposure, 2011-2018: Impact and Implications of Expanding Serum Cotinine Range

James Tsai et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the trends in secondhand smoke exposure among a nationally representative sample of U.S. nonsmokers using serum cotinine ranges of 0.05-10 ng/mL (established) and 0.015-10 ng/mL (expanded) from 2011 to 2018. The results showed a significant decrease in secondhand smoke exposure among nonsmokers, especially those experiencing lower exposure levels.
