Alteration of the Sitting and Standing Movement in Adult Spinal Deformity

Eddy Saad et al.

Summary: Adults with spinal deformity (ASD) have altered sitting and standing kinematics, depending on the type of deformity. ASD-sag patients show decreased mobility in certain joints, while ASD-hyperTK patients show increased mobility and deformity severity in certain spinal segments. Surgical correction may improve quality of life for ASD patients.

Assessment of dynamic balance during walking in patients with adult spinal deformity

Guillaume Rebeyrat et al.

Summary: This study used a subject-specific 3D approach to assess dynamic postural alignment in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) during walking. The results showed that ASD patients with dynamic postural malalignment had altered kinematics in the trunk, pelvis, and lower limbs, making them more prone to falls. The study also found that dynamic ODHA was better correlated with health-related quality of life outcomes than dSVA and dPT.

Alterations of gait kinematics depend on the deformity type in the setting of adult spinal deformity

Karl Semaan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated 3D kinematic alterations during gait in adult spinal deformity (ASD) subjects. The results showed that sagittal spinal malalignment is the main driver of gait alterations, leading to higher gait deviation index and slower walking speed.

Toward understanding the underlying mechanisms of pelvic tilt reserve in adult spinal deformity: the role of the 3D hip orientation

Mario Mekhael et al.

Summary: The study found that among adult spinal deformity patients, those who compensated with knee flexion had altered hip orientation characterized by increased posterior coverage and decreased anterior coverage. This could potentially lead to posterior femoro-acetabular impingement and limit pelvic retroversion, which may be involved in the hip-spine syndrome.

Gait kinematic alterations in subjects with adult spinal deformity and their radiological determinants

Georges Kawkabani et al.

Summary: The study found that adults with spinal deformity (ASD) exhibit static compensations during gait, including flexed posture at the trunk, hips, and knees, and reduced hip and knee mobility. These changes were closely related to static sagittal malalignment.

Development and evaluation of a new methodology for Soft Tissue Artifact compensation in the lower limb

Bhrigu K. Lahkar et al.

Summary: Skin Marker (SM) based motion capture is widely used in motion analysis, but accuracy is often affected by Soft Tissue Artifact (STA). Current compensation techniques are not fully effective, so this study proposes a FE-based model for STA compensation in lower limb motion analysis, which showed promising results in healthy subjects.
