A novel efficient liquid-liquid solvent extraction process for cannabinoid mimic recovery

Wen Li et al.

Summary: Cannabinoids have gained worldwide attention for their medicinal and psychoactive properties, but their efficient recovery from plant material is challenging due to the presence of complex mixtures. This study selected 4-tert-amylphenol (4-TAP) as a mimic for cannabinoids and used the COSMO model to predict their properties and guide the liquid-liquid extraction process. The developed three-stage LLE process showed promising results and the COSMO model proved useful in the design of cannabinoid extraction processes.

Pressurized Liquid Extraction of Hemp Residue and Purification of the Extract with Liquid-Liquid Extraction

Janos Beri et al.

Summary: The study conducted the first semi-continuous Pressurized Liquid Extraction (PLE) of hemp threshing residue with ethanol, achieving high CBD yield and efficiency. Results showed that the optimal CBD yield can be achieved at 12 MPa and 343 K under certain pressure and temperature conditions. Moreover, compared to the previous supercritical fluid extraction method, solvent consumption and operation time were significantly reduced.

A solvent loss study for the application of solvent extraction processes in the pharmaceutical industry

Wen Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the solvent loss in 18 liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) systems for extracting active pharmaceutical compounds (APCs) from plant materials. Different solvents, including aqueous phase modifiers, traditional volatile organic compound solvents, and green solvents, were examined. The research used COSMO-SAC modeling to screen for suitable solvents. The results suggest that methanol and ethanol are preferred solvents for pharmaceutical LLE processes. The loss of organic solvents into the alcoholic aqueous phase is negligible, while MIBK and acetone are not suitable due to the presence of the modifier.
