Diet composition and feeding habits of the crocodile shark, Pseudocarcharias kamoharai

Marcos D. Calle-Moran et al.

Summary: The present study aimed to investigate the diet composition and feeding habits of the crocodile shark in Ecuadorian waters, with a focus on sex, year, and sexual maturity stage. The study found that the crocodile shark was a specialist predator that preferred five specific prey species. Differences in diet were observed among different sexes, years, and maturity stages, and a high level of trophic overlap was found between females and males, as well as between different years and maturity stages. The crocodile shark was classified as a quaternary consumer or a tertiary carnivore, with a trophic level of 4.37.

Reproductive Cycle and Periodicity of In Situ and Aquarium Female Sand Tiger Sharks Carcharias taurus from the Western North Atlantic

Jennifer T. Wyffels et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reproductive characteristics of female sand tiger sharks. The reproductive cycles of in situ sharks and aquarium sharks were compared, and the endocrine differences were found to contribute to the limited reproductive success observed in aquarium sharks. The findings provide important insights into the reproductive biology of this iconic species.
