Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes and non-coding RNAs: Regulatory and therapeutic role in liver diseases

Cheng Wang et al.

Summary: Liver disease is a major global health problem with high morbidity and mortality. Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-Exo) have shown similar physiological effects as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), providing a new strategy for liver disease treatment without immune rejection or tumor formation. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) play a key role in the therapeutic effects of MSC-Exo, and this review comprehensively explores the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic effects on liver diseases, including liver injury, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. These findings provide a basis for future exploration of MSC-Exo and ncRNAs in clinical liver disease treatment.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and their exosome in acute liver failure (ALF): a comprehensive review

Samin Shokravi et al.

Summary: MSCs and their exosomes have shown promising therapeutic effects in the treatment of acute liver failure (ALF), promoting liver regeneration through various mechanisms. There is a wide range of MSCs-based strategies for ALF treatment, including the use of different types of MSCs and their derivatives in combination with other therapeutic molecules or modalities.

miR-124-3p delivered by exosomes from heme oxygenase-1 modified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells inhibits ferroptosis to attenuate ischemia-reperfusion injury in steatotic grafts

Longlong Wu et al.

Summary: This study found that ferroptosis is involved in the ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) during liver transplantation (LT) using severe steatotic donor livers. The researchers also discovered that miR-124-3p in HO-1/BMMSCs-derived exosomes (HM-exos) can downregulate Steap3 expression to inhibit ferroptosis, thereby reducing graft IRI. This suggests that targeting miR-124-3p could be a promising strategy for treating IRI in steatotic grafts.

Immortalized Mesenchymal Stem Cells: A Safe Cell Source for Cellular or Cell Membrane-Based Treatment of Glioma

Yuxuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of immortalized mesenchymal stem cells (im-MSCs) as candidates for glioma treatment. The results showed that im-MSCs had good safety and could target glioma cells, providing a safe, adequate, quality-controlled, and continuous source for glioma treatment.

Extracellular vesicles enclosed-miR-421 suppresses air pollution (PM2.5) induced cardiac dysfunction via ACE2 signalling

Hongyun Wang et al.

Summary: Exposure to PM2.5 can cause cardiac dysfunction, and the lungs may communicate with the heart through small extracellular vesicles (sEV). MiR-421 is an important mediator in this communication, inducing myocardial cell apoptosis and cardiac dysfunction by suppressing ACE2.

Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells as a valuable source for the treatment of immune-mediated disorders

Alexander Markov et al.

Summary: MSCs, with their various chararcteristics and ability to differentiate into multiple cell types, possess a secretome that can modulate inflammatory responses and promote tissue repair/regeneration. Their immunomodulatory effects are achieved through the harmonious interaction of released signaling molecules and immune/target cells, making them potential therapeutic candidates for immune-mediated disorders.
