Ventricular Tachycardia Burden and Mortality: Association or Causality?

Michelle Samuel et al.

Summary: This review aims to explore the relationship between ventricular tachycardia (VT) burden and risk of mortality, and highlights the lack of sufficient evidence to prove causal hypotheses. Further research is needed to establish consistent definitions for VT burden, assess the relationship between VT burden and mortality through randomized controlled trials, and conduct observational studies to capture VT burden and investigate a potential causal relationship.

Does Timing of Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation Affect Prognosis in Patients With an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator? Results From the Multicenter Randomized PARTITA Trial

Paolo Della Bella et al.

Summary: The study suggests that catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia after the first appropriate shock is associated with reduced risk of combined death or worsening heart failure hospitalization, lower mortality, and fewer ICD shocks.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy and ventricular tachyarrhythmia burden

Summary: The study demonstrates that early intervention with CRT-D reduces the risk of VTA recurrence in patients with LBBB, and the effect of CRT-D on VTA burden is consistent among all tested subgroups.

Survival After Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Shocks

Mehmet K. Aktas et al.

Summary: The study found that a first appropriate ICD shock was associated with increased risk of subsequent mortality, but an inappropriate shock alone was not. Additionally, therapy for ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation was linked to higher risk of death, while therapy for slower ventricular tachycardia or inappropriate therapy was not. Data also showed that appropriate shocks for VF, shocks for fast VT without prior ATP, and shocks for fast VT after failed ATP were associated with the highest risk of subsequent death.
