Coupling nitrogen/oxygen self-doped biomass porous carbon cathode catalyst with CuFeO2/biochar particle catalyst for the heterogeneous visible-light driven photo-electro-Fenton degradation of tetracycline

Shuaishuai Xin et al.

Summary: A heterogeneous visible-light driven photo-electro-Fenton system was developed using nitrogen/oxygen biomass self-doped porous carbon (NO/PC) cathode catalyst and CuFeO2/biochar particle catalyst to degrade tetracycline. By optimizing the CuFeO2/biochar loads, initial pH and current density, the energy consumption was reduced and tetracycline mineralization was promoted. The degradation pathway and Escherichia coli growth inhibition experiments showed that the catalytic degradation of the H-VL-PEF system alleviated the comprehensive toxicity of tetracycline.

Covalent organic frameworks-derived hierarchically porous N-doped carbon for 2,4-dichlorophenol degradation by activated persulfate: The dual role of graphitic N

Qin Wen et al.

Summary: Hierarchically porous carbon catalysts with high N content and large surface area were prepared via self-templated carbonization of COFs for PS activation in degrading 2,4-DCP. The catalyst showed strong adsorption ability and enhanced PS activity, with the graphitic N functional groups acting as both activity sites and electron transfer access. Increasing the graphitic N contents promoted the activation process, particularly the non-radical pathway, potentially improving degradation efficiency.

MOF Derived Co-Fe nitrogen doped graphite carbon@crosslinked magnetic chitosan Micro-nanoreactor for environmental applications: Synergy enhancement effect of adsorption-PMS activation

Aiwen Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully addresses the limitations of adsorption technology in fully mineralizing pollutants and the potential health risks from metal ion leakage. A micro-nanoreactor structure is designed with glutaraldehyde crosslinked chitosan as the backbone and encapsulated MOF-derived Co-Fe nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon as the activated PMS reaction center (Co-Fe/NC@GCS). High concentration sulfamethoxazole can be efficiently enriched through electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding, and a small amount of PMS can be rapidly activated.

Singlet oxygen-dominated activation of peroxymonosulfate by passion fruit shell derived biochar for catalytic degradation of tetracycline through a non-radical oxidation pathway

Yi Hu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the pyrolysis temperature can influence the efficiency of passion fruit shell derived biochar (PFSC) for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), with the PFSC-900/PMS system showing high catalytic performance mainly due to the non-free radical reaction pathway. This research not only showcases biochar as an efficient catalyst for PMS activation, but also provides a value-added reuse pathway for passion fruit shells.
