A foam-cemented paste backfill (FCPB) is proposed with the use of ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) measurements as a monitoring method in place of uniaxial compressive strength (UCS). The dynamic wave damping effect of vesicles created with bubbles from vesicants reduces the adverse effects of blasting and seismicity on backfill stability. UCS and UPV of FCPB are determined at various factor combinations. The results show that regardless of the changes of V/B, b/t and SC, the UCS and UPV of FCPB increased linearly with curing time and, therefore, UPV can be used to quickly evaluate the quality of FCPB.
