Catalytic reduction of NO by CO is performed over novel silver-substituted cobalt oxide nano-sized spinels, prepared via a citric acid-assisted sol-gel method. The catalysts are characterized by XRD, TEM, BET surface area measurements and CO chemisorption studies. Ag substitution in the cobalt oxide spinel lattice enhances CO chemisorption, hence the catalytic activity significantly. The prepared catalysts show excellent stability under the reaction conditions. The effect of moisture and oxygen dosage is studied for the reaction. The catalysts are found to be highly selective for N-2 over N2O.
