The IR and Raman-scattering spectra of the A-type sesquioxides Ln(2)O(3), Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, were previously published and analyzed. However, no such data is available for Ce2O3. In this work, we present the unpolarized Raman-scattering spectrum for the A-type Ce2O3. The spectrum shows the two Raman active bending modes and the E-g stretching mode, with spectral structure analogous to that of the other light Lanthanides sesquioxides. In particular, the Raman-active modes frequencies of A-type Ce2O3 are very similar to these of the A-type La2O3. Based on these analogy and similarity, we can suggest a prediction for the unresolved A(1g) stretching mode. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
