Chemotherapy can cause liver injury, which should be considered when planning for safe surgical hepatic resections. This article reviews the pertinent clinical findings and applications for surgeons to take into account in evaluating patients for hepatic resection with liver injury secondary to chemotherapy. A selection of the pertinent literature discussing types of chemotherapy-associated hepatotoxicities, mechanisms of injury, methods for identification of liver injury, and impact on surgical outcomes is discussed.
