This tutorial review describes the recent research progress of platinum nanoparticles fabricated composite microgels. Synthetic methods, characterization and applications of platinum nanoparticles loaded composite polymer microgels have been elaborated. Different types of platinum nanoparticles loaded hybrid microgel systems on the basis of their morphology have also been discussed in detail. Stability of platinum nanoparticles inside different microgel systems reported in literature has been described. Applications of platinum nanoparticles loaded composite microgels in the field of catalysis are mainly discussed in this review. An overview of catalytic applications of platinum nanoparticles fabricated hybrid microgels has been provided here along with future perspectives of this area. POLYM. COMPOS., 39:2167-2180, 2018.
